Billy Volek, QB TEN News: According to reports, Steve McNair will remain with the Titans next season after the team paid a $1 million non-exercise fee that will void the final three years of the contract. That means Billy Volek will again be a reserve, unless of course the team is able to deal him in the offseason. Analysis: The Titans are expected to add a rookie quarterback in April's Draft, either Vince Young or Jay Cutler, to replace McNair. As a result, there's a decent shot that Volek will be dealt. The N.Y. Jets could have some interest. I know this was talked about to death during the season, but why not see if we can get Volek in here to compete with Pennington. I personally would rather have him here than any of the others that have been mentioned (ie Ramsey, Kitna, Collins etc.)
The more I hear about these veteran guys, the more I think we should stick with Chad, Brooks, and draft a QB. We're not setting the world on fire this year anyway so would it hurt to use what we have? We have too many needs. Unless we could get a veteran qb for a low draft pick, then I would use what little money we have to address the o-line, dt, wr, or whatever else. I know some of you may disagree, but so be it.
um...I know you're trying to be sarcastic, but c'mon. I don't make dumb predictions so there was no need for that. A good trade would be a 5th or 6th round pick for Volek
Maybe not ideal, but not the worst trade I've ever heard. I would think we could get better value than that. I don't know, maybe I'm just being hopeful.
The Titans signed Volek to a four-year contract on March 22, 2004. The deal is worth $6.8 million and there is an option for a fifth year that includes a $4 million option bonus. Volek received a signing bonus of $2.2 million and will receive roster bonuses of $500,000 in 2006 and 2007. I think his age (31 next year) the finances and the fact that the Titans will want a second or third round draft pick will prevent a trade to New York. I don't think Cutler or Kitna are the answers either but why not Brees who's proven himself or use those same picks you'd be spending on Volek and get Rivers? Both have played for the new OC...it only makes sense.
That's what a message board is for. Express your opinions and ideas. Not everyone will agree. I could see them trying to give Bollinger a chance too.
I didn't realize they wanted that much for him. Nevermind then, they already screwed us out of a 2nd round pick once
Actually, I did not have an appreciation for Volek's value so I was not trying to be sarcastic. I apologize. So we let Abraham hopefully try to fetch us another pick in the first round. The only thing I worry about is with all the players getting let go there will be a glut on the market at some positions. Abe's value may drop.
I agree. None of the available veteran QB's via trade or Fa are capable of turning around a franchise. We need to start anew once and for all. We can use the Abe trade/FA to address other needs like NT and OT.
I don't think any of the available veterans are going to do much better than Brooks and they will cost alot more.
I thought that Volek restructured. If that is the case then he is willing to be in the same position as he was last year.
Never mind. Titans declined a club option on Billy Volek's contract, but he still remains under contract with the team. The option would have added 2008 to his current deal, which runs out in 2007. He is expected to be trade bait this offseason. Mar. 2 - 3:59 pm et
I thought all the Volek talk would die once Dinger left. I saw on the ESPNNews bottom line yesterday that Volek signed a new deal with the Titans, anyway.
id rather have Schaub form what ive been hearing and reading he can be a superstar waiting for his chance
