As everybody knows, mangini played a small role in the sopranos this past week. After reading an article in the post about it, i found it funny how much mangini has changed in the public eye. When he started out...lets just say his press conference seemed like a joke, and was embarrassed for him, but through the season and esspecially this article, it shows how much he has changed and matured into a pretty hilarious character. Between this, and his first joke about eating apple pie and ice cream with his kids after a win, and the way he handled the whole "penguin" thing is great, you gotta love a coach who doesnt take him self so seriously, but when game time starts its all or nothing and no messing around.
how dare u, i posted this in the cameo thread. this is war :breakdance: :breakdance: :breakdance:
How much he has changed from the first press conference? You were embarrassed for him? I do not recall anything that would have been out of the ordinary about his first press conference. In fact I thought everyone was pretty happy with the fact that he was no Herm Edwards at the podium.
I agree with Jetzz that there was nothing embarassign about his frist press conference, but he has definately changed. It was quite evident throughout last season that he was loosening up a bit and letting everyone see who he really is. But he still maintains his seriousness about football and that's the important part. He is walking the fine line between being a too friendly coach and being a too strict coach, and he's doing it perfectly IMO
He went from a Belichicken clone in his press conference to his own character with a personality and a sense of humor He kind of has the Herm personality (Mangini's soundbites aren't nearly as stupid but funny in its own way) with the Belicheck mind going for it
The only thing I remember from Mangini's first press conference was that he seemed to be a bit nervous...how can you blame him? Never spoke to the media like that, never had been a HC before and was the youngest coach.
I compare him more to Bill Parcells. He is tough with the players but has a sense of humor with the press. The difference is Mangini has not blown a fuse with the press yet.
Could not agree less, Parcells press conferences were almost always very contentious. Yes, sometimes he was funny but in an intense, sarcastic, condesending way. Mangini's pressers are way more relaxed and his humor is much different. I think their pressers are nite and day.
I wouldn't compare him to anyone. He's a good guy that seems very genuine, and not irritable like Parcells or Belichick or even Herm. He's a likeable guy.
He has the right balance now. If it concerns his team the answer will be professional and the company line. If it's about him he will show you the humurous side. He's not given up the game plan thats for sure..Never say never ..but I would be shocked if anyone will ever be able to push his buttons to make him have a "Dennis Green or Jim Mora moment". To smart and to cool for that.
His press conferences now are a good take. He sounds like an adult. A real, live football coach. And he often has a dry bit of humor painting his words. That's good stuff. I recall his very first press conference only too well. He sounded like a REE-tard, and he went through it like it was the Mangini Cliche Festival ("name on the front of the shirt more important than the name on the back," and so forth). Fortunately, he rebounded with sound football.
I don't know about comparing him to parcells. Tuna is footballs version of Sweet Lou. Jerkoff to everyone some days, ok with the media others.
Yeah he has Herm's sense of humor but he also has a snappy side when he needs it and he completely understands who screwed up (himself) when things aren't going that well at the moment. I wish the Jet's draft left me feeling full of confidence, however I see absolutely no shortcomings in the coach.
You guys have to read my post better. I was responding to someone comparing Mangini to Edwards. I wrote that Mangini compares more to Parcells than to Edwards. I did not write that Mangini is a Parcells clone. Mangini does have a dry sense of humor. It's not unlike Parcells' sense of humor. Both are tough on their players. The difference is Mangini has not been combative with the press...at least not yet.
I recall his very first press conference only too well. He sounded like a REE-tard, and he went through it like it was the Mangini Cliche Festival ("name on the front of the shirt more important than the name on the back," That statement appears to the hard truth though doesn't it?
