All offseason you guys have been posting tons of trade scenarios. Now that Tangini went ahead and pulled the trigger to make two trade-ups, everyone is whining. We had an exceptionally good draft last year in the mid-rounds. To expect the same this year was unrealistic. If you throw in the Thomas Jones trade, the Jets potentially landed 3 starters on day one of the draft. If that's all we get, then this year's draft was very good. I have to wonder if guys are complaining because the rest of their weekend got a little more boring. The draft is a tool to improve the team and entertainment second. I am satisfied. If we can pick up a pick or two more today, I will be ecstatic. DbJ
Except for the complaining and whining part I have to agree with DeathByJets, what we got overall when you include the Thomas Jones trade is EXCELLENT...I'm sure McCariens and/or Barton will be gone today and possibly Barrett, giving us 4th and 5th round picks. I'm satisfied with day 1 of the draft.
Unbelievable, the Jets pick up two immediate impact starters on defense on day 1 of the draft, and there are Jet fans actually complaining. Kind of reminds me of kids crying on Christmas morning that they only got two packages to open, not four. Never mind what might be in those two packages.
If McCareins goes, and I don't mind if he does, we will need to get a 3rd receiver to replace him. Not sure what help that provides. Unless they use Brad Smith a lot more which I wouldn't mind seeing at all.
Neither would I Don...I truly believe we'll pick up someone in FA...McCariens was an FA bust for us and just does not live up to expectations, I would not shed a tear to see this kid gone. But I do agree we'd need to pick up actually a 4th receiver if we trade McCariens but anyone that can come in and make some sort of impact is better than JWack.
Good post. I'm not dogging the fans who want more picks, or the Pats' draft strategy generally. But with a fixed roster and no chance to effectively keep players that don't make your 53-man roster, where is the value of having quantity over quality year after year. Where's the value in having to cut half of your draft picks because you have no place to put them? If you're in complete rebuilding mode, I understand that having more players to choose from makes sense. But the Jets are not at ground zero of a rebuilding program. Plus, with free agency in place, there's always a chance next year to pick up a couple of players via that route. If you want to be critical of this year's draft so far, it should be that we have made big bets on two players. But, then again, if you don't risk once in a while, you'll never realize the reward. Finally, I think guys like Pouha and Blanton are going to be key players on the '07 roster, so we have some help on the way there. Plus, as I said yesterday, Jason Posciak effectively made no contribution to the Jets in '06 due to injury, so he's almost like an '07 draft pick. Also, seeing we don't have a ton of draft picks, why wouldn't you want to sign with the Jets if you're an upper-echelon FA after this year's draft.
You hit the nail right on the head. I couldnt agree more. We should be happy that we have two players that move right into the atsrting line up.Last season we had Da Brick, Mangold starting and the rest of the rookie class excepT Schlegel and Titus Adams played extensively. This draft we have drafted two will start right away and I believe we will still get into the fourth round. We are not going to have 10 draft picks every year , its ok to have three or four every now and again especially if those three or four end up starting right away and are impact players.
I am not complaining about the players we got. I am happy with them, I think they have a good chance of making an immediate impact. I am just worried we gave up too much on the first day. Truth be told we needed a third 1st day pick to upgrade the right side of the Oline. The right side of the line is subpar and if last year is any indication, there is going to be no holes for Thomas to run through. I hope the FO has something planned to address this, I have faith in this regime. I am not so much complaining, just a little concerned.
Both players we got should be very good but our offensive line still can't run block. So it's nice that got Thomas Jones but when he's averaging 3 yards a carry because of our line a lot of people are going to be questioning trading up twice.
Trust me I was one of those who advocated strongly that we draft Blalock at 25 and then use of of our second round picks to draft another RT. That being said there are still guards available and O linemen we can draft.I am not at all worried.
Also sick and tired of all the complaining and whining. It's ridiculous. Alot of Jets fans make themselves look so ridiculously awful on draft day. Criticizing and complaining about nothing. Yesterday was an absolute great day for the Jets.
In Tanginni I trust. We got the best cb in the the draft and a 1st round talent at Lb, both wil be immediate starters and impact players. Yes we still need to upgrade the right side of the line i agree. We can still do that either with our late picks, undrafted fa, June cuts, or from within with Blanton. Stop cryin please
2 things on christmas would suck.....seriously! my ONLY issue (well, 2, but one is selfish) with the draft is that we had a few more holes to fill (including OL and DL) and were not going to do that with guys that could step right in.....i would have preferred taking blalock over harris, even though harris is a solid LB pick up....i know june 1st isnt far off, and theres always someone we can use comming down that day, so im gonna wait to judge how things fall......i also (sig) wanted BL here.....i figured (at least hoped) we would be taking him in round 3 or 4....no thoughts to him going in round 2!!!! good for him though....guess ill be getting a rams jersey this year....
What needs to be understood is, since the draft talks started up, nobody predicted what the jets were going to do. This is a shock to alot of people, and its understandable, having only 4 picks in the draft when everyone thought we were going to patch up our Dline and Oline is just hard to swallow. Then with the Patriots stealing randy moss, jets fans are nervous. I believe that after a week or two, Jets Nation will realize this draft isn't half bad.
