All this talk about whether or not to resign our #4 misses 1 factor: how much. For our purposes let’s assume it’s a 3yr contract and we’re counting the average.
Well if we are basing it off production he should get Robby Anderson money, because he produced just as much in less games. But I digress... I'd say $7 mil a year max but I care way more about the guarantees.
Jakeem Grant got 4 years 14.7M with Miami when he signed as a return specialist. Considering the cap has gone up since, I'd expect Berrios to get 5.5 - 6 million a year.
Berrios is a dual kick and punt returner, a legitimate option as a depth receiver, and a very useful player in both trick plays and sweep motion type plays. It’s hard to quantify his value because I don’t think there is any other player in the NFL who qualifies in all 4 of the categories. I’ve said before I’d go up to around $7.5 million… I’d probably keep that opinion.
Lots of Jets fans on Twitter and Reddit don't want to go that high for him, in fact, there's a large group of Jets fans that believe it will be easy to replace Berrios on day 3 of the draft. The Jets would be foolish to let the best KR (evident from All-Pro) and one of the best PRs walk away. To add, he's a legit depth receiver and can run gadget plays. They are devoid of talent in almost every phase of the game, don't create another hole.
@Brook! can you add (poll) to the tile. I’m seeing more replies to the thread than votes in the poll.
4M range. He’s a nice depth piece, and a dependable returner. Not the type of player that will keep ST or D coordinators up at night. Id much rather keep Crowder on a short term deal. Ideally keep them both.
Yeah and he also has a great relationship with Wilson. Wilson said recently Berrios is his best friend on the team.
I just see a very useful, smart player who could be a 10 TD player when you combine Receiving, Rushing, and Returns. He had 5 this year and didn’t really ramp up touches until the season progressed quite a bit.
There’s your answer. Hopefully he doesn’t charge the Jets premium and the Jets get this squared away before camp. $5-5.5 million over 4 years would be better. I’d concede the extra year for lesser money spread out considering the fourth year is usually a cut year anyways.
i'd say 6 mil a year. here is my reasoning. as a WR he's a low end 3 high end 4 at best. similar to the value of cole. cole got 4 mil. he also adds value as a returner even if ti's not as big of a thing these days in the NFL so 6 sounds about right to me. that puts him with aj green, marvin jones, emmanual sanders. beasley gets 7.5 and was considered the best slot WR in football at the time of signing. So to me 7.5 is too much. I think 3 years 18 mil is fair
