    TRADE: Quinton Coples
This is what happens when you let Rex Ryan make the draft picks. Despite numerous red flags, we drafted Coples to misuse him as a 3-4 pass rushing OLB. Coples is not in our future plans & would be more of a disappointment with a big payday. Contract is up after 2015, - I say trade him now & get what we can. Standard draft pick for any guy in the last year of his rookie contract is 4th round. Coples is more suited to play DE in a 4-3 scheme, --- just as they said before the draft. Best landing spot is a trade to the NFC Carolina Panthers. They run the 4-3. They need to find a replacement for Greg Hardy. Coples goes home to North Carolina. Panthers are actually entering a “win-now” mode. Ron Rivera has begun annual inclusion to the list of “hot seat” coaches. We get their 4th rounder (#124 in return).

    Draft
    1/1 Tampa Bay Jameis Winston
    1/2 Tennessee Leonard Williams
    1/3 Jacksonville Dante Fowler, Jr.
    1/4 Oakland Kevin White
    1/5 Washington Randy Gregory

    1/6 Vic Beasley / OLB / Clemson / 6-3 246
To have any chance of winning the AFC East, we need constant pressure on Tom Brady & even Ryan Tannehill. This kid put together 2 solid years at Clemson and blew away those at the combine who thought he was strictly 4-3 OLB material. I’m a believer.

    2/37 Jake Fisher / OT / Oregon / 6-6 306
Athletic tackle to challenge Breno this year at RT & be possibly considered LT D’Brick replacement after the 2015 season.

    3/70 David Johnson / RB / Northern Iowa / 6-1 224
I’m a Chris Ivory fan & I wanted Bilal Powell re-signed. But both are FAs after 2015. Like his size, skill set – particularly the ability to catch out of the backfield. Deceptively fast.

    4/105 Bryce Petty / QB / Baylor / 6-3 230
This pick is 50% timing. No matter what happens, either Geno Smith or Ryan Fitzpatrick will be playing QB for the 2015 season. Petty spends a full year on the bench as a red-shirt, - it’s a win-win for both parties. I like his attitude, mental toughness and strong arm. His accuracy is getting unfairly knocked. This guy wants to compete and win. IMO, he’s got better pro potential than Brett Hundley and Garrett Grayson.

    4/124 Eric Rowe / FS / Utah / 6-1 205 (Quinton Coples draft pick)
Got moved to CB this past season but played natural position FS for 2 seasons prior. I’m lukewarm to this Gilchrist signing, - $10 mil guaranteed is a chunk. But I guess it’s better than starting Jarrett there or inserting a rookie. But this gives us options as I think Jarrett has had more than enough time to prove himself.

5 ********** no pick ******** Brandon Marshall trade
6 ********** no pick ******** Percy Harvin trade

    7/221 Deon Simon / NT / Northwestern St. / 6-4 321
Kenrick Ellis is gone. I know we have TJ Barnes, but you can never be sure. Snacks needs some backup. Simon ran a 5.12 40 & did 35 reps at the combine.

    7/222 Zach Vigil / ILB / Utah St. / 6-2 236
We picked up # 222 in the Brandon Marshall trade. Mountain West defensive player of the year. We need some bodies for ILB consideration. Nick Bellore is just not cutting it for me.

I love Beasley and I want him on this team and be thrilled with him as our first pick. but if Mariotta is there at 6, we dont want him, and dont trade down then that is just a really poor move IMO. but i do love the pick as i think beasley is going to end being far and away the most dominant defensive player in this draft or the past one.

Taking a RB at 3 would really piss me off. if we grab one in the 7th i guess i wouldnt mind but 3rd round IMO would be really bad. especially with so many other real needs at positions that matter.

The rest im ok with, although id rather not trade couples to draft a FS. id rather fill that from within or get a veteran. i dont like the idea of a rookie and a sophmore who looked lost last year as our last line of defense in the secondary

I don't think anybody picking the Jets to go DL or OL in the first two rounds is paying attention to what is happening here..they aren't building for the future.

Draft looks great but we will need Coples when Mo walks next year.

You don't think a stud O-line prospect or outside speed rusher can immediately start (or at least make an impact) on this roster?!

These are solid players drafted....I think what Don means is the Jets need an infusion of offensive speed.......I mean Leon Washington type game breaking speed! Both at RB and WR.....I think you will see at least one of each drafted........

I think I'd be very happy with that draft, and would be fine with trading Coples.

He did well starting across from Mo his rookie year.

With Snacks and Richardson on the line Coples is a capable starter.

As good as Mo is we do not need three all pros on DL to win games.

I totally agree with your last sentence. Maybe you're right about Coples, but he just hasn't ever impressed me with his play. If he stays, I'm fine with it, but will be fine if he's traded as well. Maybe under Bowles this year he will change my mind. One thing I have no doubts about...Bowles won't tolerate not working hard, not hustling and not playing well like Rex did. Bowles will hold players accountable.

    What are you talking about?

The Jets are building to win now, but they are also building to win sustainably and (ideally) consistently. That's why guaranteed contracts haven't spanned more than 2 years for the older secondary players that we have. Getting a top OLine prospect is definitely a need, both now and (particularly) down the road.

Plus, most tackle prospects can play guard before moving to tackle, and depth is always good.

Coples should stay. I don't think he is a bad player by any means, he is just entering his prime. I would like to see this whole group stay together whatever it takes. The draft is good.

I like the Beasley and Johnson picks but cant see us not either picking MM or trading back if he's still on the board at 6.

I think Petty would be a wasted pick..almost as much as picking Hundley would be. To me there isnt a QB worth taking before the 5th round after the first 2 guys are off the board.

Id also be fairly shocked if we dont pick atleast 1 WR.

Don't like giving Coples up for a #4

Also, would like to know what your're smoking, lol.....Bryce Petty won't get past the 2nd round.

I like this except the trading of Coples. Let's see what Bowles can do with him first. I;m also a Bryce petty fan and think he should be our choice for QB in this years draft. Nice mock.

I hope so but we have no idea what Bowles coaching style is right now. I thought Herm Edwards would manage a clock.

So true both Decker and Marshall are timed by a sun dial. We need some major speed on offense. If we pass on WR in the 1st I wouldn't mind Phillip Dorsett WR in the 2nd.

U obviously don't watch much football then lol

Mariota is an absolute stud and is the best QB in the draft bar none.

He is a better version of Wilson and will be elite within the first 3 years at the nfl level.

There are 3 specific things that make him special IMO. Toughness, taking care of the football with his football iq and athleticism.

The kid doesn't turn over the ball! If u actually go back and watch a few of his games you will understand how good he really is!! Not to mention he is a calm level headed person that just wants to win!!
