Currently, we have picks in the 1st, 2nd, 5th & 6th rounds. Not good.
Our 3rd & 5th is invested in Braylon Edwards --- not sure if I?m in love w/this.
Our 4th became our current 5th in the Lito Sheppard trade w/the Eagles. Dropping 1 round without actually giving up a pick ---- pretty good.
If we lose on Sunday ----- we pick at #29 in the draft.

    A pretty good trade down scenario;
We trade our 1st rounder & the 5th rounder (#159 overall) from the Lito Sheppard/Eagles deal to the Detroit Lions.
The Lions give us their 2nd rounder (#34 overall) & their 4th rounder (#98 overall).
Why would they do that? I am thinking that G Mike Iupati will be there & the Lions will want to begin building their O-line for their Matt Stafford investment.
They will have taken Ndamukong Suh w/their 1st rounder, so they are going to be looking to add to the trenches w/Iupati.
The trade is about dead even = each side trades 668 worth of points

    2nd round (#34) Golden Tate --- WR / Notre Dame 5-11 195
We have to get Sanchez another weapon & need to find our Percy Harvin. Our defense finished 1st overall so I have to use this pick on the offense. Tate doesn?t have Harvin speed, but the guy is fast enough to stretch the D. He?s got good hands & is a versatile athlete. He?s strong for his size & tough to tackle. The only thing that discredits the need for this pick is the return of Leon Washington - the good receiving option out of the backfield.

    2nd round (#61) Mike Neal --- 3-4 DE / Purdue 6-4 302.
I know, - this is not a sexy pick but Neal will make it to the bottom of the 2nd round after a solid combine. Neal is 1 of the more stronger prospects on the D-line. He is very good at holding the point of attack. Appeared in every game since starting halfway through his freshman year. The guy is quick for his size & could run a sub-5 40 at the combine. Neal had 35 tackles this past season, including 11.5 tackles for loss & 5.5 sacks on a Purdue defense in which he found himself consistently double-teamed.

    4th round (#98) Zane Beadles --- OT/OG / Utah 6-4 312
I would love to see this guy in green. 4 year starter at Utah. Very intelligent guy. Played left tackle, but is versatile enough to move to the other side or even play guard. Very good young insurance in case someone goes down w/an injury & has some upside to inherit a starting job in the future.

    6th round (#189) Cory Jackson ---- FB / Maryland 6-1 245
Tony Richardson isn?t getting any younger. All success teams have good ground games. Most teams w/good ground games have a solid fullback & Jackson is tough.

    7th rounder (#221) Zoltan Mesko ----- P / Michigan 6-5 236
We need a punter ? Weatherford has been holding the fort down, but we need a boomer. I?m copying this pick from other drafts. I like the name.

Jeez, this thing must suck ----- not a single comment.

I probably should have said stand PAT at 29 & grab Jerry Hughes in the 1st round.

I like it a lot. I don't know too much about Mike Neal though.

Gilyard and Beadles would be awesome.

I'm just wondering if Detriot would give up so much just to move up 5 spots, it will be either 2 or 3 if we get to the "Big Game". If Iupati is available when the Jets are OTC.....I would hope they pull the trigger.

I have no issue drafting Tate, he's one of my favorites in this draft class.

I really like Neal, very underrated. Would be an excellent addition to Rex's D-Line. Mike Meal may never become a standout, but should be a solid contributor on the line.

Beadles is a solid player that could eventually start.

Not thrilled with a FB being drafted......Should have kept Jehuu Caulcrick.

Jets need another punter, I'm certain Rex will address this position, but most likely thru FA. If we draft a punter, I like Matt Dodge the best...E.Carolina. Zoltan is a little overrated, good punter, but not the best. His name is making him a "cult following".

Would have liked to seen a secondary player and 3-4 OLB added to the mix. I understand it's impossible to fill every position of need.

    Good effort, some nice players.

Like WW85 said that trade won't go down... more likely that a team in the mid-high 2nd round gives us their 2nd and 5th (if they have a low one) for our 1st.

I'm cool with Tate and Neal (although as you all know I prefer Alualu or A. Jones).

Don't really like the Beadles pick... I want a road grinder at RT, Beadles is more of an all-round RT (not powerful enough).

    T. Richardson said he wants to come back another year and we have Jason Davis as a FB on the PS. Plus Mulligan can play FB too. If they cut Caulcrick to get this Jason Davis guy (we actually signed him to the 53 man roster before putting him on the PS) they must think he's better than Caulcrick.

Plus remember FBs don't play on every down and there is always lot's of them available. Look at Lousaka Polite for the Dolphins... he was a no one and became a pro bowler.

I wonder what happened to Southerland... he wa a heck of a FB prospect last year.

If P is clearly the BPA than I'm of with it... otherwise just bring in some FA to battle it out with Weatherford. Worth noting we have already signed P T.J. Conley to future reserve contract. I must say I like Weatherford though...

I think the Jets are in a situation this year where they could trade down and address multiple, and not so glaring needs.
I'm not a fan of drafting a FB or Punter. You can grab these positions off the Practice Squad or free agency.

Detroit isn't really giving up much - they trade their 2nd for our first & their 4th for our 5th.

Thank you for the feedback. Picking past the 4th round gets tough.

Yeah, a lot of injuries for Jones, but he's such a perfect fit for what the Jets need it's hard to push him that far down. Very strong at the point of attack, but also with a good quickness off the snap that Rex seems to love in his DEs.

That said, I like the Neal pick, he seems to be the very next guy on the list of potential 34 DEs after guys like Jones, Alualu, Oghobaase, etc. Real consistent at Purdue, and those Boilermaker DLineman have one hell of a success rate in the NFL.

I don't love the first pick as a receiver, but if it has to happen I wouldn't mind Tate. Quick, smart, and would excel in the slot, also, I believe, a good fit mentally with Sanchez coming from Weis' offense.
