Nelson "never wanted to leave" the Bengals. Lol. http://www.bengals.com/news/article...l-Nelson/fbce6fc3-c31d-4c53-863a-9265d27ce48e "We've got a great young team and I wanted to be a part of that," Nelson said Sunday after he had agreed to a deal that keeps him one of the Bengals starters. "I never wanted to leave, but when we went on the market I had to keep my options open. But I'm comfortable being with the Bengals and these guys. It's where I want to be."
What is he suppose to say, "I really wanted to be with the Jets, but the Bungles gave me lots of money so I stayed"? Almost all the negotiations use other teams and offers as leverage, it is part of the process. Remember at the end of the day it is a business we are talking about here.
It's pretty funny how some people seem to constantly miss this point, and take it as some personal affront if a player decides to go elsewhere. If you go to your boss and say that another firm is interested in you so you want a raise, did you somehow "use" that other firm if your boss gives you more money and you stay?
We'll see what happens, but except for Jets fans, alot of people think the Bengals were just as good last year, and they are a young squad on the way up. Plus, he obviously liked the atmosphere last year and his family likes the area. Wives and kids can play into this stuff also. Maybe the Jets bounce back and are major contenders this year, but it doesn't look like it from the outside looking in.
jets made it to two afc championship games in a row and most people on this board don't seem to realize that the jets missed their window of opportunity. chances of the jets being viable again are getting less and less as we watch players in FA choose other teams over the jets. that is the major point, even the players recognize the jets window has closed and the dysfunction junction of last season is the major beware sign to go elsewhere!
Are you serious? We made those two AFCCGs with a rookie / 2nd year QB taking every snap along the way. Hard to say that was our "window". Getting there in the first place was an almost miracle. It was more like we snuck in through the air conditioning vents. Our window is still wide open.
if players cared about playing only for contenders then why have the majority of players that have moved gone to teams that were worse than the teams they left, if they had any motivation other than to earn more money? if you look then you will see that almost none of the top free agents have moved to other teams (in most positions of the top 10 FAs only 1 or 2 have signed with other teams) and when they have in nearly every instance they have gone to worse teams for more $$$$$$
