Wes Welker jokes: 'It's nice to stick it in Bill's face' New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker is known as one of the funniest guys on his team, although he rarely shows that humor in public. His sly takedown of Rex Ryan a few years back was a good example, although it got him in trouble with his boss Bill Belichick. Welker made another joke after New England's win Sunday over the Denver Broncos that could get Belichick's attention. Appearing on Comcast Sports New England after the game, Welker was asked if he enjoyed catching 13 passes in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos instead of when he caught three passes in Week 1 when his snaps were somewhat limited. "Yeah it's kind of nice to stick it in Bill's face once in a while," Welker said. "So this is definitely a good one." Welker said the comment with a smile and a wink, clearly joking. It's the type of quote that could get some run in the Boston press, but we think it's harmless. Welker likely is making fun of the overwrought storyline surrounding his playing time early in the season more than tweaking Belichick, who is well known to enjoy a sarcastic joke behind closed doors. Don't expect Belichick to respond to this joke like he did Welker's foot routine a few years back. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...lker-jokes-its-nice-to-stick-it-in-bills-face ______________________________________________________________________ What if instead of wes welker, it had been a jets player who said this? I think this article would be "slightly" different
The Pats have been so good for so long, while the Jets flounder in continual mistakes, I just find it hard to hate them anymore. I still do, but it is with begrudging admiration.
I've been in the same exact spot with the Yankees since the late 90s. Don't know if you're a Mets or Yanks fan (or neither/both), but it's hard to dislike guys like Jeter, or even the Steinbrenners. All they want to do is win. And most of the time, they do.
Vindictive? I'm guessing BB will not say anything or do anything. You think it was vindictive when he benched Welker for the start of that playoff game for publicly making fun of Rex? I thought it was more of message that we are professional and don't disrespect other players or teams, especially with personal stuff.
It was impressive to make a bunch of foot innuendos without giggling throughout the press conference in 09. But ^this^ had me really laughing.
I actually think there WAS a little bit of a brushback pitch there. Billy Boy was phasing FA-to be Welker out of the offense until A-Hern got hurt, hell even Edelman was getting more snaps.
Every Pats receiver has down games. They use all their assets. Gronk was only targeted 5 times this week with 4 catches and only 3 catches two games before that. maybe they're fazing him out too. And Edelman was getting alot of plays (about twenty less than Welker) through week 3, but wasn't targeted as often. Wlker was the leading receiver in 2 of the first 3 games yardagewise. Much ado about nothing. Is he getting more balls because Hernandez and Edelman are out, of course!
the difference between pats beat writers and jets beat writers cimini's article would have read "welker tells beli to shove it" and nothing in the article would have mentioned the wink and smile or any demeaner to make it sound like he was joking
This is great. I like that Welker doesn't care about the rules BB has with the media. Should be allowed to talk more. Funny guy.
