I'm tired of seeing all these threads complaining about the signings of Jon Runyan, Tebucky Jones and Kimo. We're not signing these players for a champion run, nor are we signing these players to play here long. If we were we'd be throwing $5 million signing bonus' at them like we did with Jay Fiedler for insurance. We are merely signing these players (Kimo and Runyan) to step in and play as a stop gap for the rookies to develop.

Everyone wants to build a championship team with an average age of twenty four and compete within one year of rebuilding. Sorry but it's not happening. We have plenty of draft picks to draft players and let them sit behind our veterans so they can learn the ropes and their confidence won't be killed if they are thrown into the fire. Jon Runyan is an example of this signing. He will be the starter on day one and will give any rookies and probably Marko Cavka/Steve Morley the chance to compete even though he'll most likely be the opening day starter.

Kimo helped us solidify our 3-4 much better. 3-4 end isn't a position that you can take an average 4-3 defensive tackle, put him there and expect him to flourish. It doesn't work. Too many 4-3 tackles want to penetrate, whereas 3-4 ends really just need quick bursts to give the tackles/guard an initial push back then let the linebackers make the play. There aren't many 3-4 ends in this years draft, so we signed Kimo to play this year, and maybe next; let our linebackers get used to it and better help Robertson inside.

So stop whining. We have a young base with all of our linebackers, all of our secondary, Coles, Shaun Ellis and Cedric Houston is looking to be solid as well. Put some older players around them, let them teach them the ropes and see what happens. The Patriots have been winning Superbowls and all of their linebackers were drafted before 97 asside from Colvin and their foundation in the secondary was Ty Law and Rodney Harrison for years.

    Runyon resigned with Philly today.

But I agree with you that the complaining is pretty ridiculous. Every team must have some veteran leadership that can guide the young talent.

Yes we do need veteran leadership. What i think is more ridiculous than the complaining though is the people who dont have enough faith to believe we will even have a winning season.

We paid Feidler 5MM? If I were Woody I would have some heads on a platter!

Hey DW that would make a great sig for someone silver platters with the casualty's..let's see who to serve up, not too gory, but just right...

Woody to Jay Cross after seeing the P&L for 2005 (profit and losses)... "this bonus sh*t has got to stop, some fricking heads are gonna roll...."

Totally out of character from what we perceive on the meet and greets in the parking lot, but I bet behind closed doors he can be a mighty little SOB when it comes to money without production....

  6. Awesome thread.

In today's NFL you have to have veteran leadership to build a program. Last season we didnt have enough on D, and the moves we've made thus far change that.
