I went and posted on Lionbacker.com - this was my post: Hello all. Jets fan here representing theganggreen.com. Here to discuss trade talk per John Clayton today. Re: John Abraham and our 3rd rd pick to the Lions for pick 9. Thoughts? The feeling on the Jet board is.....hell, take it! Otherwise we'd send him to Denver for no higher than the 22nd pick. Ok, here are the responses: 1) Make it Abraham and your 2nd round pick and we can talk. (My thoughts - FU buddy) 2) Depends, It would have to be a draft day trade and would depend on who was still there, if Hawk, M.Williams, Furguson, Ngata or Huff are still there I'd tell you to go to hell. If they arent....I'd say give me Abraham and your Second and Fourth round picks (sorry if you dont have one....I know nothing of the jets picks this year...if you dont, id say your third next year so you better hope you have one, lol) and we will consider it. But just for Abraham and your third or even Abraham and your second, Hell no. (My thoughts - I'd rather trade Abe earlier, settle his value and then have $ to spend on FA's. Plus it's risk reward. Teams may get desperate and trade you greater value for him or may say, ah the hell with it anyway, we can get a younger cheaper pass rusher in today's draft anyway) 3) Yeah there is no way the Lions give up the #9 overall pick for a guy that has durability concerns and is always worried about how much he's getting paid. As mentioned Rice will be a better option even if he is older than giving up a 1st rounder. I could however see the Lions giving up their 2nd rounder for Abraham and the Jets 3rd rounder. The Jets are bent over a barrel when it comes to Abraham. The entire league knows they can't afford to pay him the franchise tag price so they are at the mercy of the other teams as to what htey can get for him. They will have to take teh best deal or more than likely let him go. At the most they will get a mid 2nd rounder for him at this point, not because he's not worth more but because the Jets have no leverage. If Rice is released he's the top canidate mainly because of the admiration that he and Marinelli have for each other. (My thoughts - Please God, don't let this be true)
Their dumb as hell how could you not want Abraham a dominatin game changin D end and all you gotta give up is a 1st. The Lions have no Defense and Abe on their D would be big for them. They are deffinately now up there on the list for dumbest fans in the NFL. They just dont get it. I hope they have fun draftin another reciever this year.
doesn't seem too great....they're not happy about it and we are...that means the trade's never gunna happen
Abraham and our 3rd for their 2nd? They can't honestly think it is fair value, can they? He'll probably end up in denver for one of thier 1st round picks. this year they draft Jackson or Holmes because they are the best players left on their board.
One thing I really took away from this Lionbacker.com experience, HOPE AND PRAY tampa doesn't cut Rice. He will impair Abe's value big-time b/c you don't have to give up picks to get him.
The one guy wants Abraham, a 2nd rounder AND a 4th rounder for their 1st round pick? Is he on crack? Abe and a 3rd rounder is plenty good.
Nothing I wouldn't have expected. I know Abe's value is high but he does have us by the balls and teams know that. I would still be surprised if we got anyhing higher than a 2nd for him....
Interesting stuff. Just a thought, is it possible KC and the coolaide king might be interested in negotiating a deal for Abe. We have their 4, they must be picking pretty high in round 1, give them back the 4 and Abe for their 1st rounder. It's the sort of thing that shmuck Herm might be interested in. Like I said, just a thought.
The third guy who said Abe has us over the barrel because the Jets can not afford to keep him does not know what he is talking about. After restructuring with Moore, Ellis, Coles, and Martin, and releasing several players the Jets are under the cap. This INCLUDES Abes 1 year contract. The Jets haven't even finished restructuring with Penny or Kendall yet, which would give more cap space. The Jets could more than afford to keep Abe. The issue is Abe does not want to be a Jet and the Jets don't want him.
I believe the first guy was the closest to being accurate. When I had looked at the draft value chart, I figured that there's no way that they'd give up #9 for Abe and our 3rd rounder. That's the equivalent of the #14 pick. I can see them doing it for Abe and our 2nd rounder, which would be the equivalent of the #21 pick and in line(slightly better) with what Denver is offering. I would probably prefer to keep the second rounder and take one of Denver's picks, but that's only because I think we need quantity out of this draft. The second guy does have a point though. If a guy like Rice is available or M. Williams somehow slipped in the draft, they're better off going that route.
Millen has not impressed, but I still remember his SB victory with Oakland in 83. I have the program from the game, and he looks a lot different today. It's sad when an animal gets tamed. Now he is just hanging on to his job. Sad
If they think they can get a real value out of any trade regarding any team or player with Millen as their GM, they're nuts. That franchise is screwed with Millen.
I have all three Raider victories on DVD. Alzado, Millen, Long, Townsend. 9 points from the best offense in the league that year. We were about as fierce as you could get. Hopefully soon, we get back to that. Picking up Burgess was a good first step
