Hopefully this guy is a diamond in the rough and I'll be rooting hard for him, but this definitely feels like a let down.
I don't think there is a position that the jets needed to address LESS than DE. Joe Douglas will again make sure that the jets occupy the basement in the AFC East for many years to come!
Hope he proves the underwhelm wrong. But it's about damn time we had a game changing pass rusher so I hope he can be it. Maybe JFM plays more inside this year. Still wish they went with JSN or Flowers. Gotta go OL in the 2nd
Yeah your offense sucked dick and had 2 quarterbacks get injured while running for their lives last year while our defense was top notch, so what the fuck do you do go defense in 1st round. I mean this guy is a true moron no wonder he is 20-46 and going to get fired after this year. How many beatings will our 100 million dollar quarterback take this year?
horrible intersecton of need/ availability and other teams' trade needs. Hope the scouting staff is brilliant but more likely just panicked and unprepared for no OTs available and no CB-needy trade suitors. Oh well.
Another potential entry for the draft folly video. I can’t wait to hear the “thought process” on this one
When it's a surprise pick, I'd rather see monster highlights on the field......not him jumping over a car, dunking a basketball (which like most all football players can do anyway) or doing back flips. But that's just me.
In an AFC stacked with QBs I don't blame them for going pass rusher again. Saleh is all about tons of d lineman so it's not crazy to think he was their top d lineman on the board.
Did you see the draft room, They didn't know what to do and probably looked at JD for the final decision – and all he does is his "let's pick the most freakish athlete available face"...and the dope Saleh says YEAH!...and Woody is like I'm paying you to make the decisions - ONLY when I'm clueless on what to do...lol. Terrible pick at 15. We should have drafted JSN.
From what I read, the lack of tape this year is in part because he was completely misused - they had him, at like 240 lbs, rushing on the interior rather than on the edge.
The addition of Rodgers made the need for an offensive lineman less urgent. Great QB's didn't become great because they played behind great O-lines their whole careers. There are many adjustments a QB can make to cover up weaknesses on the teams they play on and that's what makes them great. I don't know much about the guy JD drafted, but it sounds like he could be a good D disruptor. With the top OLs gone, it was clear that taking OL at that point would have been a reach. Hopefully he can find good value at OL tomorrow.
It’s not the LB pick itself - McDonald can be a good player…I think everyone is bummed the Steelers traded up and took the last viable first round OT - the #1 position of need.
This take rings true. I don't watch college, so weirdly, it makes me feel a little better, to hear he's a good kid and high floor/low ceiling, which means he shouldn't bust. Can't have too many capable edge rushers I guess. And I'm a sucker for character guys. However: Douglas' performance this offseason has been... concerning.
Fire Douglas now! Already two terrible decisions the same week. He gives away the farm for Rodgers and then takes a 24 year old second rounder at pick 15.
