I am going to the game on Sunday and I am pretty friggin pumped about being there but worried that the result may already be somewhat obvious. We don't play well in Buffalo and have split the season series with them something like 8 years in a row I think, I didn't bother to check but it has been frequent. My main worry is evidenced by the destruction of Miami's O-line that occured yesterday, combined with the downfield coverage that also led to about 3 of those sacks. I watched all of the game and there were occasions where Daunte had at least 7 or 8 seconds but didn't have anyone open, and was then taken down. The absence of our running game 2 weeks in a row will only make it harder for us to move the ball, allowing Buffalo to take guys out of the box and cover receivers. Our offensive line has been pushed backwards on almost ever running play for 2 straight weeks now, and Buffalo might have the best D-line we have faced. Now look at the defence. The Pats converted about 60% of their 3rd downs, and ran the ball for 148 yards. Willis McGahee is better than both RBs the Pats have. I am worried about what he can do to us. We also got very very little pressure on Brady, even when we outnumbered the blockers. Chad was sacked 4 times, Brady was sacked once. The only key to winning in Buffalo it to make Losman throw, and make him do it under pressure. The bottom line is this: if we cannot run the ball this week, we will lose. I really think the number one priority for this team right now is figuring out how to move the ball on the ground. The second biggest priority is taking McGahee out of the game as much as possible and leaving it up to Losman. But if we do that, pressure still has to be there, or coverage has to be solid because we know he can be decent at times. Getting Losman to play like Losman is huge. If Buffalo can rely on Willis, and we have to pass all game, we're in trouble, big time.
that buffalo defense scares me, but as long as we allow ZERO big plays on special teams, i feel like our defense can force some turnovers on losman
I think the game is winnable. Just like this week it will come down to the play of the oline. Hopefully we learned something this week (which may have been simply that we are not at the point yet where we can line up and play smash mouth football). We will be able to attack the Buffalo secondary. Certainly not a guaranteed win but if we can pull it out is something to really build on.
Both Pats running backs are better than McGahee who is solid and much better than any one we have but not better than Dillion and right now I wouldn't trade Maroney for McGahee straight up. The Pats Oline is better than Buffalo's and Brady is a bit more intimidating than PJ Losman. You can't cheat up to play the run against the Pats with Brady you can with the Bills. The Bills are okay they aren't in the same league as the Pats running the ball or stopping the run. We will run on them and we will play action and go over the top on them as long as we don't let PJ do what Brady did to us, establish an early two score lead.
I like to call him LosEman.....but it doesnt really make sense after yesterday...even thoughhis 8 of 15 for 87 yards barely contributed to the win
 LosEman, I like that. I really think we will be fine next week. I know Buffalo won this week, but look who they played. As long as Chad keeps on playing like he has, and the defense keeps it up then we have this game won. The running game hasn't been working so far this season, but maybe it can change in Buffalo?
That's a pretty bold statement considering Maroney has played in only 2 career games...While McGahee has rushed for over 1200 yards in each of the last 2 seasons with a very average OLine and teams stacking the box since they're not scared of Losman or Holcomb for that matter... Right now, McGahee is definately better than Maroney.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't expect to win many games vs divisional rivals in their barn. We always split with Buffalo, with each team winning at home. This is a winnable game but I expect to lose a close one UNLESS we can establish a running game (unlikely). Let's hope I'm wrong!
McGahee is the Bills offense with the occasional big play to Lee Evans. Rashard Moore must be starting NT if you want to stop the run and i think Barlow should get some yards to help Chad with the passing game but the Bills D is excellent. Yesterday Mularkey's play calling was horrible though and Culpepper enough said so i have faith we can sneak a close one but if McGahee runs over us then goodnight
Protecting Chad should be the #1 priority. I really hate watching him taking hits. Coincidentally, it was the Bills at home that did Pennington in, when he went down with his first shoulder injury. I am getting worried.
Nate Clements can get burnt at times... Terrence McGee did an excellent job on Chambers and has really evolved as a very good Corner in this league. His hips move very good and his cover skills are excellent. Buffalo has 2 rookie safties, and since Buffalo runs a "Tampa-2" style defense, much is asked of the safties to cover alot of field...So obviously, attack the rookies if possible.
Clements is solid man. For every time he gets burnt he probably makes two or three good plays. McGee is also good, the Bills have always had a solid solid D, only out of nowhere last year their run D was awful and it looks like they haven't fixed that problem yet. However, our pathetic run O won't pose much of a problem for them. Could be a long day for the O this Sunday but atleast we know our D will keep us in it because Buffalo's O doesn't scare anyone.
to be fair, Losman didn't turn the ball over in 2 divisional road games. He may not be lighting up the score board so far, but he's taking care of the football and that's all you can ask for at this point in his career
Fair point and Maroney is in a much better situation. Let me put it differently, the combination of Dillion and Moroney is a much better running attack than what the Bills put out. Today if I had a 1 back O I probably would take McGahee over Maroney. I believe Maroney has a chance to be an elite back. McGahee while tough and solid is a step below the elite backs. I'm very interested to see what Barlow can do against the Bills D line this week. Barlow stepping up is a big key to where we go this season. We need to be able to run on the Bills a little to bring their safties up.
"Barlow stepping up is a big key to where we go this season." No truer words were ever spoken. Barlow will be a huge part of getting any credible ground game going. I am hoping he has a bit more of a breakout week against the Bills. I also, think Houston needs some time and our faster backs like Blaylock, Washington and even Smith have to start seeing time late in the 3rd quarter to spell Barlow. I think that is a winning combination. Starting Blaylock this week will be very, this pains me severely, "Herm-like".
Bills 24 Jets 7 Willis 30 carries 130 yds rushing 1 Td JPL 15-21 150 yds passing 2 TDs 1 Int Pressure on Penny by this Bills defense should cause havoc in the Jets passing game, factor in the return of TKO and I see Penny having a long afternoon. Penny 15/35 220 yds passing - 4 sacks 2 Ints 1TD Jets run game < 100 total yds
You can't cheat up and play the run on the Bills either. In case you haven't realized it, if there was any aspect of the game that JP Losman is solid in, its the long ball. If the safeties cheat up he will burn you deep with 2 fast receivers. Mcgahee is a work horse he will pound it all day even if he is only getting 3 or 4 yards, after awhile the Dline gets tired and those gains grow to 5-10 yards. Im not sure you can say Maroney is better than Mcgahee after just 2 games. We will run on them? with who? Jets running game isn't exactly stellar. And how do you expect them to go over the top on them, the Bills secondary is solid, the Linebacking corps has alot of speed and the Bills Safeties Whitner and Simpson were pretty solid last week.
