I am hoping someone here can help. I am beginner at this stuff and I need an informative web site. Not for trading, not for collecting money thru goodle ads. Just a simple 7-8 page web site that is informative. Don't need the bells and whistles. All I need is a good place to host the website and offers web building service. I have a few options web.com squarespace.com wix.com weebly.com Internet reviews are kind of contradicting. So I am hoping someone here can guide me towards one of these.
well when I was 15 I created a website for the heck of it. I used tripod.com. It was free and very easy to use. Today if I were to make a detailed, awesomely presentable website that most likely is easy to create, I would go with squarespace.com But for basic stuff, free, website last forever, no control over ads however, I would go with tripod. They offer widgets and stuff to add to your site, etc etc.
Hey mute I am really a beginner and even beginner's beginner. That said, what do you suggest? Shall I buy the domain name first and then transfer it to sqaurespace.com? Or shall I do the squarespace deal for 16 bucks a month including the free doamin? I want to be able to transfer web site from sqaurespace to another host without any issues. I am not knowledgable but I feel like if I take the squarespace.com deal, the domain will be their property.
since you are a virgin like I was at one point, play around with tripod. From what I remember with tripod, when you create a site it would be YOURWEBSITENAME.tripod.com . Test the waters there then when you become comfortable go with the buying domain route. Comfortable meaning you know what you are doing, you are serious and committed to buying a domain to further your horizon in the online world. P.S. I havent used tripod in pretty much since teenage years but looking at today's features it looks decent for the free option. They even allow google adwords credit which back then wasnt an option.
Are you building a website for a business, even just to say who you are and what you do? If you are then I'd suggest getting a domain name early on. It looks more professional and gives you full ownership in a way that YOURWEBSITENAME.tripod.com doesn't (to use the example above). My only experience of using a template based web design wasn't great but it was a long time ago so I can't help on this. I designed my own sites using fairly cheap software that was readily available though.
Hi Mo Yes it is for business. I won't set it up with tripod.com extension don't worry. But I will listen to mute's suggestion and build a few examples on tripod.com before I build a real one. Still learning.
Well, your business will dictate your site needs....... I don't really do webstuff anymore (haven't kept up with the latest software / code trends) but have good people that I'll refer work to, whether it's ad agency quality stuff, or a basic template mod. Pm me if you have more questions. But for starters, I'd purchase the domain name(s) you'd like to use
Thanks stinkyB. Good advice. Where do you suggest for domain purchase? godaddy or register.com? Prices are reasonable at both sites so not sure what the service difference is.
GoDaddy's easy. I own a bunch of domain names that I think may be useful one day....... but I'm probably just throwing a $100 a year away I do have some hosting with them too..... there may be cheaper alternatives though, but it's easy I have a 36% off discount code that expires on sunday... it's just on new purchases, not renewals: gd41182a https://www.godaddy.com/deals2/defa...D-3D&iphoneview=1&cvosrc=email.house.gd41182a
if it's a clever name, or something you think you'll be serious about, may as well get the .net and others that may be very similar also.
Hi stinkyB Godaddy bundles .com, .net and .org so I will get all three for my business. Thanks again for the suggestion. Spot on byz And the opening page will feature me kissing the ugly British chick in London. All good
