Since 98: '98: Vinny's miracle year. Definitely the most dominant team we have had in the last 20 years, we blew through the league once Testaverde replaced Foley. Good. '99: Vinny tears his ACL in the first game, we have to live through the Mirer era. Parcells, Belichick and Keyshawn all bounce. Bad. '00: We shock everyone with a 4-0 start to the year, including an awesome win in the "flashlight" game. Of course we choked away the season with that disastrous end to the year in Baltimore (remember how we lit up that defense early on though? Crazy!). Call it good since it beat expectations. '01: OK, this is the one year that doesn't fit my thesis. Curtis Martin ran wild, and the "Shrek" Jets made the playoffs by winning ugly. This was not a very good team that managed to ekk out 10 wins. Have to call it good. '02: A disastrous start to the year (we didn't just lose, we got absolutely humiliated for like four games in a row) turned to huge optimism with the emergence of Chad Pennington. He was mostly flawless, our defense stepped it up and we looked dominant heading into the Divisional Round. Of course we were beaten handily, but things were looking up. Definitely a good year. '03: Very bad. Pennington went down in the preseason, Vinny came in and looked old and done until Chad came back mid-season. Kind of a wasted year. '04: Amazingly, the Jets started off 5-0 when people were actually predicting them to do so based on what looked like an incredibly easy early schedule. Of course one of teams deemed to be an easy win--San Diego--turned out to be one of the better teams in the league. The Jets won that game and then beat the Chargers in the playoffs. Still, late season convincing losses to the Pats and Steelers showed this team wasn't as good as we all hoped they might be. Still a pretty good year, despite the Brien-factor. '05: Honestly, this season is still kind of a blur to me. Bollywood! '06: Any year that the Jets beat Brady in Foxboro is a good year. Even though we lost to them in the playoffs, this season still beat all expectations. '07: Not good, but at least we beat the Dolphins twice. Late season games were pretty hard to watch. '08: Looking good so far... So, in summary: Good: '98, '00, '01, '02, '04, '06, '08 Bad: '99, '03, '05, '07
