I know--if you are CHAMP69--nothing matters except super bowls.
But for me -- making the playoffs is the main goal a team should have year in and year out.
So -- based on the numbers -- we have not been as bad as TGG would have us believe.
(Thats why, despite predictions of 4-13; 5-11; I think that last year was a "mulligan" and that well be much better than people think).

Number of playoff appearance in last 5 years (missed year)

    Ne 4 (02)
    Pitt 4 (03)
    Indy 4 (01)

    Denver 3
    Jets 3

    Balt 2
    Tenn 2
    Oak 2

    Cincy 1
    Jax 1
    SD 1
    KC 1
    CLE 1
    Miami 1

I agree. I really think last year was a convoluted mess, with no stability at many key positions. The defense, minus abraham, is still decent, and I really believe if Chad stays healthy, his leadership skills alone can get the best out of a marginally talented offensive unit. Also, you never know when a star is born, and we just might see some serious production out of a player or two on both sides of the ball. I think we can eek out 7-9 or 8-8, and I'd be happy with that this year.

I thought we were talking about talent on the field, not organization's. But your're right, Woody is a moron, but please don't get me started on him now. Its too early in the season!

That last part, I have no problem with. I think that with everything working perfectly, we can be a .500 team.

I absolutely agree. Terrible organization. Check out my posts (if they still exist) about the jets in the 70s (no playoffs), 80's (4 playoffs) and 90's (2 playoffs).

BUT, in the last five years only three AFC teams have made the playoffs more. Last year, the wheels fell off. We used five QB's. We are only one year removed from a team that should have been in the AFC Championship. There are absolutely holes on the team -- but I think this team will be MUCH better than people think.

Injuries at QB have really plagued the Jets, but there was always room for improvement along the way as well. I think in time Mangini will have the Jets back in contention. He needs a few more solid drafts under his belt though....
