Maybe the Jets are trying to fill their biggest needs so they WON'T have to pick at the 6th pick? Maybe the Jets really want to trade back and acquire extra picks? If we sign Jessie Chatman, I don't see any possible way we will draft McFadden. Unless we released either TJ or Leon then it wouldn't make any sense to have 4 RB's on your team. Calvin Pace was just signed to a 42 Million dollar contract. They would have to fork over a BUTTLOAD of money to Vernon Gholston who plays the same position. Although he would make more sense then McFadden, I still am not sold the Jets will draft this guy after signing Pace to that kind of money. Having said all that...We did release Justin McCareins and we have yet to fill THAT need. I would love to trade back 5-7 spots and draft Limas Sweed. Perhaps the Jets plan on filling the needs and then trading back to fill up the depth chart a bit? I think it would be beneficial and WISE of the NYJ to trade back (if possible) and get as many young players as possible. What do you guys think?
I am not sure of who would want to trade down, but there should be some interest in teams if McFadden falls to our pick...(one of the DT's could get alot of interest) A team like Denver or Cincy could be desperate and trade up for one of the DT's after not landing one via trade.
I can really see that happening... It will take some leaking that we are going to take whoever and hope that another GM calls saying we want him... DMC, Ellis, or Gholston may actually warrant a trading partner. I have no problem with it at all, we just better make the right pick if we are to pick in the early 10-15
I still wouldn't have a problem with drafting Gholston. Aside from having to dump a buttload of money on the position, bringing in Gholston if he is around would still improve the defense. We're running a 3-4 which means we need plenty of LBs, especially on the outside where all the pressure is supposed to come from. So far, our OLB depth chart is: Bryan Thomas, a guy with one good year in the system who has switched to the strong side and couldn't effectively apply pressure facing both tackles and tight ends; Calvin Pace, a promising player with only one full year of experience at the position; David Bowens, a 30 yro "pass rushing specialist"(read: does f*ck all against the run) who managed to pile up a whopping 2.5 sacks last year. Right now Thomas and Pace are the two most best suited to start on this defense and if one of them goes down the other is likely f*cked if we don't have a viable back-up to take his place. Having Gholston sitting in the background for a few months of the season, comming in on a rotation is only going to keep him from making too many rookie mistakes and give Thomas, Pace, or Bowens a chance to take a breather every now and again to help them stay fresh.
You really aren't looking at the big picture. Do you really think Jesse Chatman would keep them from drafting McFadden if they felt DMC was the BPA? Same goes for Pace & Gholston, Gholston wouldn't even play the same position, he would be much more likely to challenge Bryan Thomas on the weak side than Pace on the strong side. I still think that our first pick comes down to who they like better between DMac and Gholston if they are both available or whichever of the two is left, no matter how the rest of FA plays out. I would consider a trade down to be a remote possibilty.
Or maybe they want to take all the picks they have left and move up to get the one guy they want. That is the history of this FO. Maybe a deal with Parcells for #1 and Chris Long.
