for those of you who think we are are built to win now, [which includes myself] i would hope you wouldnt want m.ryan, i believe this team is 1 maybe 2 players away from truly contending this season, if we can get gholston, d-mac, c.long or one of those cb's, or the best lb available in the draft, then were built for the next 3,4 years, your thoughts,
My thoughts are this has been beaten to death in the last month. The answer, once again, is we are not only built to win now, but have a very solid young foundation. Rayn would be a fine pick if the FO thinks that we do not have a long term answer at QB right now. The #6 does not have to have an impact right now. We have show a pattren of trading Vets for future picks. This down not scream win now at all costs. Woody has come out and said this is not a "win now" type of year. The only place this exisits is in the minds of Jet fans and writers who are trying to stir the pot for more storys.
My thoughts: 1 to 2 players away from contending, yet you say we need Gholston, Darren McFadden, Chris Long or a cornerback? That's at least 3 holes on defense. Also, Abram Elam is starting opposite Kerry Rhodes...that can't be good. We don't have game breaking wideouts, and our quarterback situation is iffy. Darren McFadden is not a need, but Minnesota didn't need Adrian Peterson last season and look how that moved turned out. We've improved our interior defensive line, and our offensive line. Calvin Pace is a huge question mark right now. A 30-something stud guard, and 30-something first time right tackle, a questionable one-year wonder outside linebacker, and a mammoth defensive tackle don't turn a team picking in the top 6 around right away. The secondary has weaknesses. The pass rush is still in question. We still don't know who the starting quarterback will be? Winning will take time. Give this team time.
Of course Woody says that publicly, what else can he say when he is asked? Still, I think the Jets have made enough off season moves where they can easily afford a luxury pick if that what is available when they are on the clock.
Built to win now means that Mangin and Tanny wouldn't have a guaranteed job in 2009. We have the building blocks in place to be a consistently winning team for few years, rather than this every other year bullshit. To say we are 1 or 2 players away from winning a Super Bowl is something i can't believe. Maybe 1 or 2 years away. But we are in position to stay above 8 wins for the next 3-4 years if everyone stays healthy and we continue to draft players like Rhodes, Harris, Revis and sign guys like Jenkins, Faneca, Richardson... That is how good teams are built. A franchise QB is needed though. I like Ryan, but what we have right now to lead the offense is not impressive and the whole NFL does not respect our team, especially at the QB position. The Raiders have more respect at the QB position.

do you mean we can it all with a "stud pick" like Gholston or Long? Or do you mean get back to 9-11 wins with that one guy?
What I'm saying is we can only have one of those guys... That means all of those other empty positions are left in question. We are not 1 or 2 players away from contending that's ridiculous. The offense was at the bottom of the league in most stat categories, and the only changes we made were to the offensive line. That should improve the running game A LOT, and it should keep Clemens/Pennington on his feet longer, but we don't have any gamebreakers on offense...and that hurts. Once again, rebuilding takes time. We have to fill ALL of the holes, and you can't do that in one off-season.
9-11 wins this season, and then next season win it all, if everything gel's right, i truly believe we got the right guys in tangini, i have all the faith in them
who's Quarterbacking this magical ride to SB XLIV? Because i think we may have the other 21 personnel to do it, i'd like your thoughts on the signal caller.
Do yourself a favor and get rid of anything in your house that you can kill yourself with. You may be in for a major letdown. Your hopes are way too high right now.
we couldnt run or pass block last season, you would think we could be able to this season, coles missed 5 game and most of 2 more, and we had a 2nd year qb starting
pick no 6 is for the now the rest is for the future.m ryan is not the pick.the no 6 has to step in right away.gholston dmc the longs or a cb do that.a qb with the 2nd or one of the 4ths isn;t a bad idea.if the season goes to shit cause of the qb playthrow him in and groom him for next year.however i agree with hulk we're playof bound this year........of course i say that every year
