It looked to me like Darrelle Rvis almost has the pick or at least could have caused the incompletion, but Elam comes over and misses Evans, hitting Revis and knocking him off the ball. Elam, in a way, sprung Evans for the TD....watch: http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d803afdad
It was obvious that Elam's reckless abandon, which is a nice a attitude to have on the field, sometimes just falls under the category of reckless.
Elam is a nice player, but he's really somewhat out of control out there. I have to say I'm surprised to see him out of the roster. "Abram Elam, the safety out of Kent State" is also known as "Abram Elam, the safety tossed out of Notre Dame for sexual battery." Not exactly a character character. The next time we pass on drafting some guy because of character concerns I'm going to be all the more exasperated, knowing that we've got this guy running around out there. -X-
Well, maybe that bodes well for drafting Jason Shirley....Suspended 2 times at Fresno state for minor Alcohol relataed incidents. 6'5" 330 lb monster in the middle.
I still think he's going to be a nice player. He's all over the field on every play. We had a guy very similar to him once - Nick Fergueson - who has become a starting Safety with the Broncos. I think he has earned more playing time.
I think as far as character concerns, I would assume that the front office thinks football is important to him and that his personal problems are behind him.
I don't like him at all... Being aggressive is great, but you NEED, especially as a safety, to have at least A LITTLE discipline... Rewatch the last two games... He overruns almost every outside running play.... He's very susceptible to play action, as he ALWAYS takes one or two steps in when the QB looks towards a back, even though safeties are trained to take 3 drop steps on every play... The long TD to Evans was just an example of him f*cking up by being overzealous and nobody making up for it, as was his whiffed tackle in the backfield last week.... I want a mean, aggressive defense, but without discipline, you can't play in the NFL
man, Revis had that INT! what does it matter anyway, without the TD, Chad stays in the game and we lose 6-3 instead of 13-3.
That's why I hated listening to that moron Buttle on 1050 after the game... 'Ya gotta put soem blame on the defense folks' 'Without that defensive lapse on the long play to Evans, it's a whole different ball game' No it's not... We couldn't move at all, except when TJ was picking up big chunks of yards, and we barely gave him the ball at all in the 4th.... We weren't crossing the 50 with Chad at QB
Don't forget we're talking about a guy who just made his 2nd career start. And considering the alternative is Erik Coleman, I think the choice is obvious.
That whole game was pretty much crap until that last play. It was a phenomenal play, and as much as it hurt to watch it happen against us, that was by far the most exciting play of the game...not to many times a game gets decided by a play like that. p.s as a former db all I have to say is Revis showed great body control and play making ability getting and was close to picking the ball off before getting hit by his own safety. That kid is going to be special, but he is going to make quite a few mistakes along the way. Elam, wtf?
It looked it an interception too me.... like I said glad I was in San Diego inhaling toxic fumes than watching that snooze fest.
I'd rather have Erik Coleman in there, wrapping up the ball carrier 5-10 yards downfield when our front 7 is ineffective, than Abram Elam over-running the play, leaving a seam open for a cutback, and relying on the LBs to drag the ballcarrier down from behind... Kid's gotta calm down, or get out....
This guy has playued better than Coleman. And lets face it, the two player defensive collision happens all the time, it just sucks to be on the wrong side of it this time...
