Lex Hilliard is terrible, Austin Howard is worse. Lining these guys up on the same side cost us at least 3 big plays yesterday. How is it that Clyde Gates and Konrad Reuland still on the team? They're players that aren't helping at all. Gates consistently runs the wrong routes and reuland hasn't even been seeing the field. John Conner got cut but I don't remember EVER being this bad at pass pro. It's obvious Hilliard isn't getting it done, He's been a liability the past couple games. Are there really no other options out there? There are so many holes and wasted roster spots on this team right now. It's frustrating to me I don't see how the FO and CS are putting up with it.
Clyde Gates is a scrub he wouldnt even be on anyother teams practice squad. Who ever is evaluating talent here needs to leave town with Rex and Sanchez the sooner the better. This team was set up to fail miserably.
Lex Hilliard isn't awful. He's better than the terminator ever was. Austin Howard isn't a stud, but he's done well considering what he went through. Clyde Gates is a fucking SCRUB! Reuland? Who? He's also a scrub. Tanny and Rex deserve the blame on the offensive side of the ball/
Jet should thank the football gods they landed Austin Howard. You might not be happy with his performance but don't forget what the alternative was supposed to be. Just sit back & think of the following: 1 - WFH came in as the default RT 2 - No draft pick spent to replace him 3 - No FA signings to replace him 4 - No trades to replace him until preseason was almost over Austin Howard is just as important (if not more important) to this team as Cro. With WFH out there every play, Sanchez would be turning the ball over even more & this season would be even more hopeless. By utilizing ZERO effort to upgrade one of the worst starters Jets have had in years, they still lucked out and found a lightly better than average RT. === Can the RT position be improved heading into next season? Of course, Austin Howard isn't that good. But there's gonna be a lot of holes on this roster & it's very possible that once again Jets will enter training camp with zero effort to upgrade their RT spot.
While I agree with all this, I can't believe that they're not going to put effort into upgrading this position. After last nights game, with a rookie absolutely handling that side, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets exposed rest of the season. My point, however, was that we know he's nothing special. We know he's not a stud. How are we not doing a better job of preparing our backs to help on that side? How is Hilliard our best pass blocking option. The play described below in particular is the reason he doesn't belong on any roster, no less as the first option for pass pro. 2:16 left in the 3rd QTR, 3rd and 7 at NYJ 48 (Shotgun) M.Sanchez sacked at NYJ 42 for -6 yards (B.Irvin). -- Hilliard comes across the formation to block Greene in the back, Yes Our Greene, Howard Stands up, stares down their ILB and then turns to dbl team Moores man. Irvin (DE) is untouched to Sanchez less then an arms length away from Howard. Worst play of the game on offense, hands down.
When you don't build depth you wind up with scrubs on the depth chart instead of people fighting to get on the field. When you have to put those scrubs on the field because shit happens you lose 5 out of 6 games. I wish this was rocket science so I could see the Jets talent people as smart but somehow missing a few clues here and there. It's not though. It's NFL Personnel 101, a course that nobody on the Jets has passed.
Don't get the wrong idea, I totally agree with you that Jets don't have a very good player @ RT. There's just so many holes that I've got doubts RT can be upgraded. Here's the positions on offense where Jets have cheap JAGs barely holding down their roster spot: LG, RG, RT, RB, 2nd TE, FB, 3rd WR. Who knows if Keller & Greene are even coming back. In addition almost the entire LB core needs to be replaced. Jets also have 2 old safeties & one is very injury-prone. There are A LOT of holes here. Jets are a team that just drafted 8 players & only kept 4. With that history & the philosophy of constantly trading up, I've got doubts they're gonna fill up a lot of these holes next season with quality draft picks. If Jets resign Revis then there's even less $$$ in FA to upgrade all these positions. It's gonna take multiple seasons to get out of this mess. So we're stuck with Slauson/Howard/Vlad level players for a while.
Lex Hilliard has been terrible. He doesn't know who to block or how to block in the passing game. I just see someone who is lost. Maybe the stats will prove me wrong, but I saw him missing blockers the last 2 games in the pass game often. We should just buy the Steelers FO. Tell Woody big headlines will happen if you offer blank checks to another team's FO.
