The Jets might not have to give up anything to get Ramsey and we could use a guy like Jansen on the line. www.washingtonpost.com The Redskins had hoped to get at least a fourth-round draft pick in a trade for backup quarterback Patrick Ramsey, but might end up releasing him to save $1.7 million. If the situation turns dire, the Redskins might have to release Jansen, which would save $800,000, or Thomas, who would provide $2.1 million in savings. They are two of only a few players who could provide significant relief from the salary cap crunch simply by being cut.
There is no way the Redskins release Jansen. The Redskin coaches are in love with him. Besides, they have no alternative waiting in the wings. Look for Washington to possibly release Brandon Noble, Walt Harris, Matt Bowen, John Hall, Cory Ramer and a couple others. A news report says both Portis and Brunell restructured their deals this week. As of yesterday the Redskins were actually around 17 mill over the cap. The bottom line is that no CBA would hurt the Redskins this year but help them tremendously in an uncapped 2007. In the end, no CBA would be a disaster for small market teams.
oh how i would laugh if they have to cut Jansen or Thomas. All these years of buying up the whole league will bite them on the ass.
Does anyone know the sanction for a team not getting within the salary cap by the deadline? What happens? Does the team forfeit games, draft picks? what happens?
If that's all, why don't some teams make a calculated decision to keep some of their key players and forfeit a pick? Wouldn't that be better than wholesale cuts?
Significant fines I believe.. are given for every DAY you are over the cap, there is no way it's possible to stay over it.
If my math is correct, thats about 4.6 million...still a long ways to go no? Im curious..what happens if a team doesnt get under the cap by midnight tonite...turn into pumpkins? cap police come and get them? Whats the penalty..because if its a fine...Daniel son could probably come up with it.
:breakdance: Gibbs has said on the radio that many of the players have already agreed to restructured deals, but they are just waiting to see if a CBA gets done before signing the deals, and that is the smart thing to do. skins can cut away 11 million in crap players before having to restructure big contracts. and according to John Clayton, the Redskins are 17 million over the cap. alot of players will actually restructure on the skins because we won last year, unlike the Jets.
I heard on the radio last night, that some capologists around the league believe that it's not in any way possible for the Redskins to get under the cap, and that they may have to play as much as 20 rookies this season. As far as the penalties attributed to being over the cap, I would think it would have something to do with how far over the cap a team is. I know the Broncos at one point were fined a 3rd round pick, but I don't know how far over they were. I definitely see the league taking draft picks away from the Skins if they don't get under.
many redskins have restructured just in case a CBA does not get done, the restructures only go into effect if no CBA is reached. the known are Marcus Washington Mark Brunell Shawn Springs Clinton Portis Randy Thomas some other guys also nice to have a team with good chemistry and players that put the team above themselves.
hehe, thats funny, our guys restructured even if the cba was reached. And we didn't even win last year.Talk about Chemistry huh.
We didn't win last year and we got players to restructure. We're currently under the cap. Don't really see what your point is there. Redskins fans have finally built up the balls to show their faces here again. Only took 3 years.
