Figured i'd give you guys a good laugh! Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano wasn't the only one issuing bold statements at camp on Thursday. Third-year cornerback Vontae Davis declared he and secondary partner Sean Smith as the best duo in the NFL. "I'm going to go out on a limb and say we're the best tandem in the league," Davis said. When pushed by the questioner if he included Jets cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie, who have a combined 32 interceptions and four Pro Bowl berths to Davis' and Smith's five and none respectively, he wouldn't backpedal. "You name them all and I'm putting it out there," Davis said. Sparano also spoke with confidence on Thursday saying his Dolphins squad could stand up to any of its rivals. "We're not going to back down from anybody in this division," he said. "I don't care who they are and who's out there. Our team comes to compete every single week, and they have." Sparano liked Davis' confident stance. "I like to hear it,'' Sparano said. "I think they need to play with swagger. They need to play with confidence and those two guys have confidence. "Time will tell at the end of this thing whether or not they are but I'd take them." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-vontae-davis-sean-smith-best-tandem-0825,0,433400.story
vontae davis is a legit corner, Sean Smith got abused a little bit after a stellar rookie year. if they can both actually progress instead of plateauing they will be set at starting corner as long as theyre under contract. as far as best tandem, he broke into ricky's locker before he left and self medicated
How are they gonna defend Holmes, Burress, Mason, Keller, Cumerberland, Kerley, LT and McKnight out the backfield all at the same time??
So the jets swagger is contagious, eh? Yeah, maybe, that'd be interesting... but still that doesn't explain how they'd manage to cover Gronkowski.
It's pretty obvious they're not even close but nothing wrong with a little trash talk, actually I like Sparano's comment as well. It just sounds better coming from Rex. Don't be surprised when you see Tom Brady go right after them either. Maybe the Phins can put up a fight against the better teams in the league instead of just us. They've had Rex's number so they've earned the right to talk shit.
This the same day after Football Outsiders for ESPN rated Vontae Davis as overrated "Scouts Inc. grades have Davis as one of the top 10 cornerbacks in the league. That may be true when it comes to raw talent, but like a lot of young cornerbacks, Davis' early performance hasn't quite reflected that talent level. According to Football Outsiders game charting, Davis ranked 61st in adjusted yards per pass allowed last year, and 71st in adjusted success rate in coverage. He also had nine broken tackles, which is a lot for a cornerback."
