The Bulldogs got scoring runs from tailback Kregg Lumpkin and fullback Brannan Southerland in the fourth quarter to lead the rally. The comeback was the largest for the Bulldogs under Coach Mark Richt in any game. Linebacker Tony Taylor had two interceptions for the Bulldogs, both of which led to touchdowns. The two picks tied the Georgia bowl record held by Scott Woerner and Ronnie Harris. Brandon Coutu kicked three field goals for the Bulldogs, including a 51-yarder that was the second-longest kick in bowl history. Coutu also kicked two extra points. In the third quarter, tight end Martrez Milner hauled in a 16-yard scoring pass from quarterback Matthew Stafford. The drive was set up by a successful onside kick that was struck and recovered by kicker Brian Mimbs. In the second quarter, the Hokies got a pair of 1-yard scoring runs from running back Branden Ore to go up 14-0. Then Virginia Tech reached into its bag of tricks as receiver Eddie Royal caught a lateral and threw a 53-yard scoring pass to tight end Sam Wheeler. Kicker Brandon Pace tacked on all three extra points. Georgia improved to 9-4 with three straight wins at the end of the season, while the Hokies wound up at 10-3.
This was a shock. I thought UGA would win but I never thought they would score 28 straight against the best D in the NCAA to do it. Very entertaining Chick-fil-a Bowl.
Same here. I took Georgia and put 12 points on the game (using confidence points in my bowl contest this year). However at 21-3, I was thinking UGA wouldn't come back.
