Sorry if it is a repost, but didn't see a topic. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3687374.html Still very unimpressive.
He is pretty much on par with his predecessors in this league and slightly below the average for a starting QB, pretty much we can bury the worry of VY now on his interviewing and his pro day
You are correct. He is a great baller, and that will get you by on the college level easily. But when it comes to the NFL, you need to have a mental edge in order to become a successful QB. How can we go from Chad, who is arguably one of the most intelligent QB's in the league, to a guy who may not know that September is the 9th month of the year?
maybe he got that one right...I hear ya that QB's need to be smart but end of the day it's about playing football and reading defenses.
I'll be the lone holdout until the end of time - I think Vince Young really did score a 6 the first time around, and everything since has been spin and cover up. Too many stories. Why doesn't his agent give us his score to the first test that was "tested incorrectly"? The whole thing leaves me with the impression that people are scrambling to fix this, after improperly leaking the damn story at the start.
I agree. I really do think that he got a six. Read the article--He retook the test. If it was a "grading mistake" or just a stupid rumor they would've only graded(or re-graded) the original test. Ehh, whatever though.
At least he can tie his shoes. Not the brightest bulb in the box but great natural ability. It Cutler jumps him in the draft it will show how dumb he was for skipping the combines. Looks like it could happen.
You have to give it to the NFL though they were pretty smart about it. It's like Homer told Bart "You got greedy, a D is so easy to change into a B, but you went for the A". So, forget that 6, Vince got a 16. I have to admit though I was skeptical about this story from the start, maybe I'm being naive but I have a hard time believe that anyone could score so low on the test given the "sample" questions I've seen, unless they were "special".
Conversely, what I think happened here is that the rumor was false, like Charlie Casserly stated, Vince's test is and was ALWAYS a 16, and the original posting of a 6 grade was completely made up. Note* The scores had NOT been given to NFL teams yet, but the originatirs of the rumor claimed NFL team sources. Also, I find it very hard to believe that if the true scored were leaked, that they wouldn't post all of them.
And on the actual score, who cares if he scored a 16?? What does that prove, that he can't figure out what number belongs in the 2_3_5_*_?_12 sequence? Excuse me for being blunt, but the thing that matters is football smarts. I assure you that the teams, when they interview him, aren't just asking about his momma and where he grew up, they're grilling him on routes, offensive packages, different defenses, what he'd do in certain situations, and why he DID things when he was at Texas, good and bad. That's what the NFL teams are going to look at come April.
Funny how Charlie Casserly was the first guy to call bullshit. Casserly's already on thin ice in Houston. Sitting on his hands while a favorite son of Texas (and, more importantly, that state's university) were torn to shreds by a pack of NFL hyenas was not an option. Vince took another test, and his agent was quick to tell everyone that he scored 16. If it were a scoring error, there shouldn't be a need for a second test. I'm going to need that original test in my hands to see with my own eyes before I'll ever believe this latest story they're piecing together. I just don't buy it. ___________________________________________________________ EDIT: And it seems that the few of us still holding out that Vince really did get a 6. . . well. . . we ain't alone. http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm Don't read the PFT stuff, if you don't want. Skip down to the linked news stories, which cite sources other than PFT.
I think this changes the landscape dramatically. I strongly disagree with those who think Young's score is unimportant. Today's Star-Ledger points out that the overall average score for all players is 21. The average score for QB's is 25. A score of 16 is abysmal. Who cares, you say? You'll care, when he's your QB and can't remember, read, understand and therefore properly execute game plans. Those who have been bashing Cutler and not wanting to take him at #4 may now get their wish: he may not even be available. The Star-Ledger speculates that Young's score "could result in a drop from the top five and perhaps all the way out of the first round." My biggest fear now is that Bush, Leinart and Cutler are all gone when we pick at #4. Now you have the choice of picking a really athletic but really dumb QB, or not taking a QB until later. Ferguson may be a Jet after all.
I think you're really overreacting here. A score of 16 is low, but I don't think its really a point of huge concern. A score of 6 however, raises questions of whether there is something seriously wrong in Youngs head. While 16 is certainly on the "low" end of scores for QB's people really overrate this test. Just because you're intelligent doesn't mean you don't act incredibly stupid(I've read Quincy Carter scored higher then Chad on this test). Barring any result that indicates some kind of learning disability or mental retardation I don't think this really has any value in determining a players worth. These reports that Young may drop out of the first round are pretty ridiculous, and I still hope the Jets take him at #4.
