Hey guys and gals...I just wanted to throw some ideas out here...

Vilma-I don't understand why you guys want him gone...I know its the system and all that jazz, but I hope he stays...With a new D- coordinater, they might give him another shot. I mean, if we had a D-linemen that could plug holes, hime and Harris would be lethal. Sure Harris did it with an undersized lineman, but think of what would happen if Vilma was right by his side...He is a pro bowl linebacker commited to learning this defense...I couldn't pass him up...but thats me

Justin Miller-what do you guys/gals think of moving justin miller to safety? He has great speed for a corner, but he is way to physical...he is a big hitter, I think him and Rhodes would make a nice combo...

Free Agents- For all of those who list needs, cornerback is not one of them...Darrell Revis can only cover one side of the field...Hank Poteat was our other starting corner...if you look at the stats, Im am sure you will find that the majority of the passing tds we let up were from the side opposite Revis. Barrett is good but imo, he is a nickel...he could start, but we could use an upgrade. I would be willing to pay Samuel...He knows the system, he is a ballhawk and pairing him with revis would be lock down...this isnt madden, I know, but let me finish...Suggs would be a great addition, def. better than barton or hobson...and i know he is short, but I would love to shave some weight off of Dwayne Robertson and move him to D-end and either go after haynesworth or a d-tackle in the draft, although, Pouha played well the second half...as far as the offense goes...why is everyone sayin JErricho is not a number one or just a decent number 2? The guy is money and if coles is back, thats a great duo...you forget, we are gettin chansi stuckey back who is very promising but obviously might not be an immediate answer as playmaker, although him and kellen had great chemistry in teh preseason...getting a big play wide reciever would help...and as for kellen, people are so quick to judge, the guy had little experience with a shitty o-line...i think he will be a really good qb...and lastly, the o-line...just get some good players in here to protect the qb, o-line/d-line are the foundations of very great team...we need quality

I agree with you on Vilma, and on Miller, it might be worth a try, but it is no sure thing, I have a feeling he would play simalar to Abram Elam, fast and physical but will overrun some plays and make mental mistakes.

Since its apparent the JETS are in love with David Harris as the MLB they need to stop messing with the 3-4 and switch to a 4-3 and move Vilma to WLB where he can still make plays like Derrick Brooks. If you think about it, Harris and Vilma would be a nice duo in nickel packages and the JETS need all the help they can get on defense. Harris, Vilma, Rhodes, and Revis make a good nucleus in the back seven for the defense with Ellis, Robertson, Mosley, Coleman and Pouha. Justin Miller is still a mystery because his head is mainly thinking about returning kicks and not covering receivers but hopefully he returns to being 100 percent and he wins the other corner spot opposite Revis. And I pray that Erick Coleman returns to his rookie form and Andre Dyson can remain healthy for a whole season.

I totally agree about Vilma. I don't see what we would get for him that would be as valuable as he would be playing alongside Harris. Think about most of the great Ds from teams gone by, they usually have a couple of top LBs, not just one. Having Harris will make Vilma better, I think.

Vilma and Harris can be the younger version of Mo Lewis and Marvin Jones.

No, Harris would move to OLB, Vilma would stay in the middle.

You think? Why would they move Harris at all?

Dumbest post ever. The Jets were in love with Vilma. If they cared that much about the player they would never have changed to the 3-4. Why would they all of a sudden go to the 4-3 just because they realy like one of their linebackers. Vilma was one of the best 4-3 MLBs in the league but it doesn't matter anymore. The 3-4 is here to stay.

Why would we move a guy who's already proved he can play the position at an exceptional level, for a guy who's proved he is average at best there?

Vilma is coming off the mysterious knee, also, so we don't know if he'll be as fast as he was. I'd say having Harris in the middle takes heat off Vilma and maybe he'll "fit" this defense better at a different position, providing he's healthy. We could have a great young LB corps if that works.

The Jets drafted Harris as a 3-4 ILB. They are in love with their current scheme. You are in love with the concept of a 4-3 defense. And your heart is going to break over and over again until you realize they are building a 3-4 personnel package to use with multiple fronts, including a 4-3 defense, which they have been using for 2 seasons.

With the emergence of David Harris as a legit Three Four LB pairing Vilma next to him might work. Only way i look to trade Vilma this offseason is if we can trade him for a guy like Shaun Rogers other then that Vilma deserves a shot to play next to the young gunner.

its a buisness, they're not gonna give vilma a long term deal worth millions of dollars which is what he's gonna want with his performance so far in the 3-4 and now his knee injury. trading him now gives us something for him instead of nothing later. i say if we can't get any value for him in a trade cause of the knee stick him back there with harris, and IF he performs like the vilma of old then franchise tag him at the end of next year and at least get 2 more seasons out of him.

The free safety needs really good cover skills as well as excellent read and react skills on plays in front of him.

It's harder to play FS well than CB in most sets. A CB with good cover skills who reads well but then loses a step? Move him to free safety. A CB with great speed but lousy cover skills? No chance.

All reports out of camp were that Miller really increased his coverage skills and was putting his full effort into becoming a decent CB. Of course that was from the people that visited training camp on a regular basis (JetCane and SundayJack or ThunderbirdJet ??? not sure of them all). But from their detailed reports I would trust them before a beat writer.

Anyway that is food for thought.

With the injury he had, he will probably need at least half a season to show improvement if not more. I also doubt he will get much special teams time in the beginning. He may get eased back into the rotation. I would be surprised if the staff just put him in and threw him to the wolves sort of speak.

When Vilma was being selected to the probowl and won DROTY in the 4-3, he was considered "average at best"???

Go back and read the topic, we're talking about if we switch back to a 4-3.

If we spend our money on a guy like Samuel I will be pissed. We have way too many other problems and Revis looks like he will be one of the top corners in this league sometime in the future. Spend the money on O-linedman, big fat nose tackles, and pass rushers.

I also don't see Miller as a big hitter and I don't understand why no one likes Eric Smith. The guy improved a lot this year and was a bg part of how well the secondary played the second half of the season.

I don't know about cover skills but you do need good ball skills which Miller lacks.
