I know this doesn't mean much at this time but so far Vilma leading the league in tackles and John Abraham in sacks.
when you say according to mangenius you do mean according to anyone with common football knowledge of how a 3-4 operates right? New York Jets Rushing Defense. Allowed: 3.1 YPC 76.5 YPG New Orleans Saints Rushing D Allowed: 5.8 YPC 147.5 YPG yeah yeah Jenkins is the number 1 reason for our improved rushing D, that said Vilmas back in a 4-3 which means his responsibility is to make more tackles. plain and simple. leading the league in tackles obviously means that player reads well and has the attitude to bring people down. but its pretty miselading in representing the overall effectiveness a player has in the scheme. i miss vilmas leadership, i dont miss getting gutted up the middle, we said goodbye to that when harris stepped in. john abraham? the guy gets a one on one most of the time always been a sack specialist. being he has 4 sacks in 2 games. i really dont care. he'll be out for the year by week 8.
I have watched both of them play thus far this year. Vilma is a stay at home backer, and while he has a lot of tackles, they are at least after 4-5 yards gained. He make tackles in space. Abraham, has the sacks/strip sacks, but he often is not on the field during the run, and when he is on the field during running plays always get suckered inside and the running back runs around end.
vilma gets pushed around like a ragdoll and makes his tackles after a 5 yard gain and abe will come up lame eventually. good riddance to both. I like our D.
Very happy with our LB's. Not missing Vilma, but wishing him well for selfish reasons. Abraham? Let him take up a spot on someone else's IR report.
Since when did fans every pay attention to details like those? They look on the ballot, they see 160 tackles in a season and say...hey thi sguy must be good!!! I just want Vilma to do what ever he has to do for us to get the highest possible compensationfor him... i don't remember the details of the trade..
This is the first thing that always comes to mind when i think about Abe. What a pussy he was that year Herm might be a bigger pussy letting him getting away with it. Vilma on the otherhand i have no ill will towards and wish him nothing but success. It sucks, but very obvious, he didnt fit our system because the guy is good and hardly ever misses on a tackle. I know the brady whiff was a big one but nobody's perfect.
Me too. We haven't had an LB or DE as good as either of them since they left. I think Harris and Pace can play the part, but they aren't as athletically gifted as those 2 guys are. To me it is a knock on Mangini to not be able to find a way to make an LB as good as Vilma fit into your system. It's not as if we're dominating and he'd have just held us back....
me, I'm taking up a collection to get the Sunday ticket to watch the Saints, anyone willing to pay to get rid of me? Seriously though, I am just a really big fan of former hurricanes especially the ones who were also on the Jets.
im am so glad that vilma is playing and playing well. both because it helps us and more importantly because he was a very good player who deserved better than he got here in new york. i am also happy for abe that he is playing well and hope that he stays healthy, he is a overpowering force rushing the qb when healthy.
