There's been a lot of discussion about a possible Vick-run wildcat formation. The Jets practiced the wildcat today, so we know they still like running it.

Mary Mornhinweg ran the most wildcat plays last NFL season out of all 32 teams.

I personally, am not a fan of the wildcrap. It hasn't worked since the Brad smith days, and it wastes downs.

As far as "Vick Packages"...please...no. You have to let the starting QB get out there and get on a streak. If Vick comes in for plays...it will disrupt the momentum of the offense. It reminds me too much of the Tebow-Era which failed miserably. Two quarterbacks does not work.

There's one side of the argument that brings up a good point. Vick is a weapon and using him will have opponents occupied also preparing for Vick. There's no doubt...Vick could be special in packages at moments....but here's the problem. Vick has never started all 16 games in an NFL season. He's the backup quarterback...god forbid he gets hurt. Then the QB situation has Matt Simms backing up Geno. Throw everything out the window if Geno falters. Keep Vick healthy and locked up in a straight jacket until/If he is called upon somewhere in the season. If Geno starts playing well, then maybe Vick would be useful...but until Geno proves what he is....please god...no Tebow package.

If we run the wildcat this year that means the QB situation is shit.

Yeah I can see what you mean. If Vick got hurt the starting quarterback would have to play. Working as intended.

    I also dislike the wildcat.

If we're going to use the wildcat, at least we have QB who can actually be a threat while doing it.
The argument that it's a waste of a down doesn't hold up with a QB running it.
The injury argument is solid, but sometimes it may be worth the risk.

Yeah, I despise the Wildcat. Even when Brad Smith ran it, 90% of the time he got 1 or 2 yards, because he ran it every single time and teams knew it. If he hadn't busted one or two huge runs, his average would have been terrible. I don't like breaking up a QB's rhythm for a gimmick play.

Whenever we actually pass out of the WC formation, we pretty much always get a big completion.

The problem is, we run it in the WC 90% of the time. This is stupid. Its not like Geno has the mobility of Peyton Manning. Keep Vick on the bench unless Geno gets hurt, or plays very badly.

I have this odd feeling that in 5 years or so, we're going to lead the league in read-option plays.

Rex loves everything that doesnt involve throwing the ball on offense.

It's his only downfall. Just think of what if Peyton decided to come here? We would have had, and still would have a top 5 offense, and top 5 defense.

Anyway, I hope Marty makes all the Offensive calls, and chooses to pass a lot. It's not that I hate the "ground and pound," but more so that I have questions with the line, and don't feel like we have a top RB. Yes we have crazy RB depth. We should carry Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, and maybe Daryl Richardson too. However, none of them are 300 carry guys, and never will be (again.) The offensive line while seeming good on paper, still has to mold. IDK about you guys, but I sure am bummed still that we didn't just pay a few dollars more to keep Austin Howard, and the continuity.

So why not keep Geno comfortable, and continue to use a lot of Shotgun formation, and also do quick slant passes because I feel like we'll be getting blitzed more than other teams.

Either way, I have confidence in the offense, and in both QBs, so I want to pass more.

It really depends on how other teams set the box if we get man on man without safety help we cant be afraid to throw it

Why is it we get all excited about MM when all the talk is on his "package plays" for Vick, a guy that could come in, play 3 quarters and win the game for you? As offensive coordinator, you should be predicting how this previously pathetic revamped team can and will score touchdowns, amass yardage and win games!

Can we please rid the playbook of any mention of the wildcat? It has never done more that tell the defense exactly what we're going to run.

  16. All the wildcat does is destroy any momentum the offense has..I'd prefer never seeing it again actually.

Well it wouldn't the Wildcat if Vick ran it, right? It would just be an option/read type play since Vick is a QB.

Either way, let the media talk it up. Let other teams think we have it in our back pocket.

My hope is we don't need to do this to get explosive plays, something we lacked. We should have the offensive talent where we don't need to lean on the WC for a reliable run game or way to trick the defense.

Well it's pretty silly considering after about a season and a half of the Dolphins running it, the entire league figured it out and shut it down very quickly by stacking the box and committing the safeties to the run.

Even still, it should never be run with Vick as it's just a recipe for a disaster to get him injured.

That and the biggest problem with the wildcat formation in the Jets game plan is that they always seem to go to it right after the team makes a big play. It ruined Sanchez, because every time he'd make a nice throw, we'd see him split out wide and Tebow in. It's a rhythm ruining formula especially for young quarterbacks that thrive on staying in rhythm and finding it in general.

Throw it out of the playbook already and move on. It ripped the Patriots for a couple games and Rex needs to get over it, because it doesn't really work anymore.

I agree, but It's different if they bring in Vick to QB on a series as a changeup. In Wildcat...they rarely throw the ball and like you said...people figured it out.

But if Vick comes in as he would normally...and plays QB for a series...it's different. I still don't want it.

I would bet we run it atleast twice in Week 1. But after that it will depend on how well Geno performs. If he proves early on that he is a different QB from last season then its the end of the wildcat. If he struggles and its 3 and outs more often than not it will probably last longer then we all want.

I loved the WC when B.Smith ran it cause I was never a big Sanchez fan. Wouldnt wanna see it now cause I think Geno has a higher ceiling than Mark ever had.
