Even if our dream QB falls in our lap on draft day there are some serious questions about the rest of our depth chart at QB. To get a discussion going not only about the starting QB spot but also the # 2 job I am going to list the available QBs (free agents and trade possibilities). below. Feel free to comment, rank, or otherwise add to the discussion about who we should be looking at prior to the draft. I left off guys like Eli Manning or David Carr who I think are unrealistic even though the #6 overall pick is a huge piece of bait. I also left of some of the guys 34 years or older. Why go into the draft with a horrible QB situation when we can draft from a position of strength? Free Agent Possibilities 1. Drew Brees (39) 2. Kurt Cousins (30) 3. Jimmy Garrapolo (26) 4. Case Keenum (30) 5. Sam Bradford (30) 6. Teddy Bridgewater (25) 7. Josh McNown (39) 8. AJ McCarron (27) - RFA 9. Geno Smith (29) 10. Matt Moore (34) 11. Tom Savage (28) 12. Blaine Gabbert (28) 13. EJ Manuel (28) 14. Mark Sanchez (31) 15. Ryan Mallett (30) 16. Chase Daniel (31) 17. Colin Kaepernick (30) 18. Johnny Manziel (25) Trade Possibilities 1. Andrew Luck (28) 2. Alex Smith (33) 3. Nick Foles (29) 4. Blake Bortles (25) 5. Tyrod Taylor (28) 6. Ryan Tannehill (29) 7. Trevor Siemian (26) 8. Paxton Lynch (23) 9. Colt McCoy (31) 10. Mike Glennon (28) 11 Chad Henne (32) 12. DeShone Kizer (22) 13. Davis Webb (23) 14. C,J, Beathard (24) Jets Roster 1. Bryce Petty (26) 2. Christian Hackenberg (22)
I like to be thorough. I also wanted to show you guys how many options we have. The Sanchize might be the #3 QB of the future for us. You never know.
Oh My Garsh..quite a list Hasty..Wow TBH I pass on all As A GM I don't have to " Draft from a position of strength"...I just have to KNOW WHAT IAM DOING and get my guy BTWthe QB who will be in Jet camp tutoring the new kid we draft WASNT EVEN ON the LIST...lol Josh McGown the locker room favorite will be there...you watch
Nick Foles is the only one on that list I want to see in a Jets uniform in 2018. I would say a healthy Luck too but a healthy Luck isn't leaving Indy.
In order, Cousins Teddy bridgeh2o Mccown Sign cousins = qb position solved, maybe double up with another qb in the mid-late rounds Sign bridgwater still take a qb high. Qb room of teddy, High draft pick/petty or hack gives you some potential to hit on something. Bring back mccown and go all in on whoever we dish out of the draft pool. Really not interested in anything else
Sign Bridgewater if he becomes available and draft a QB. If they BOTH pan out, you have a good problem on your hands.
Here is my thought, Keep four QBs next year until everytthing settles in with the new offensive coordinator. Depth Chart 1. Nick Foles (29) - On the books for $7 mil next year. In exchange for a team option to extend in 2019 he gets incentives added to his current pay. 2. Ryan Mallett (30) - Solid #2 QB 3. My first choice is Teddy Bridgewater (25) who can sit on the bench until he is 100% healthy but I would happy to bring in just about anyone including Manziel to fight it out with Hack and Petty for the #3 job. 4. Probably a draft pick but only if the value is there. If we draft anyone they wear a red shirt for a year unless two other guys get injured. I would try to get McNown back as an assistant coach instead of a player.
Four Ways To Address QB in 2018 - Sign Josh McCown to mentor QB you draft in round 1 with the No. 6 pick or higher if you trade up. - Sign Kurt Cousins and sign a jag vet qb to back him up. A Matt Moore type. - Trade for Alex Smith or Nick Foles then trade back in round 1 if the opportunity presents itself but not out of top 10. Take a qb (Baker Mayfield) on 1st day of draft to be mentored. - Start a Josh Rosen or Sam Darnold smear campaign, which causes one of those guy's to fall somewhere between 10-15 in rd 1. Trade back, get more 1st day picks, then draft Rosen or Darnold with a massive chip on their shoulder.
Even though I like Nick foles, he is going to cost a ton in a trade if he wins the SB. He's 29 going on 30, is it even worth it to trade for him?
It's obvious....Bring Sanchez back and hire Rex Ryan as our QB coach. Rex had Sanchez playing at the highest QB rating of any QB in that season's playoffs and higher than any former NY Jet QB in histroy. Mark's play was fantastic, and all 4 games on the road, including taking out Tom Brady and the Pats. In the 6 yrs Mark has been away he has grown as a gamer. He's a better player. Better than McCown and better than ANY of the other hacks. PLUS he as STONES in the playoffs. The opposite guys like Smith who crumbles under pressure. And we all know Rex would have been a much better leader of the offense than his own defense. Rex was successful on defense because he understood what offenses would do. He knew and understood the opposing offense better than the opposing HC. And he would know hands down what the DC on the other side would try to do to shut him down. As an OC, Ryan would be unstoppable. Sanchez/Ryan = 2018 SB, first of many
