Today there was an article from FOX news about how the Jets are leaving Brandon Moore hanging completely out to dry on the eve of free agency...he hasn't heard from them, etc. It got me thinking about the veteran leadership (or lack thereof) on this team. The Jets haven't been taking care of their own at all the last few years. Edwards, Woody, Cotchery, Jenkins, Taylor, Brad Smith, Tomlinson, Pace, Scott, Thomas. All veterans who held clout in the locker room that have left this team for whatever reason the last few years. Thats not even mentioning marginal players that were good locker room guys like a Ihedigbo, Lowery, etc... Certainly some of those guys the Jets either didn't have much say in the matter or perhaps they made the right call but at the same time maybe this is why we've seen such a circus atmosphere? I'm not saying PAY Brandon Moore whatever he wants, but how do you not even talk to a 10 year Veteran of your team and team leader before you let him presumably walk??? A lot of these departures were vocally a little miffed as well. Woody, Cotchery, Tomlinson.. now most likely Moore. What about Devito? Slauson? they both probably come cheap.. good locker room guys. No desire to resign them? This isn't even supposed to be a Revis conversation, but that certainly can't look good inside the locker room... The NFL is certainly about getting younger, especially when you are rebuilding but there's something to be said for hanging onto/trying to hang onto at least some of your mainstays..This team has very few veteran leaders now and when you have a QB that lacks leadership skills, this is recipe for disaster - as we've seen.
That is garbage and a great point to make. One thing this team has lacked since our decline after 2010 is real leadership. The team is a bunch of sheep led by the biggest ewe in Rex. Looking at the roster I don't see a single leader on the team. Mangold? Harris? The best thing that could happen is if Idzik and Mornhinweg can shake this team up a bit. Of course, Idzik snubbing Moore (a player who has been with the Jets his entire NFL career) is not the best start.
This is going to be a very young team next year. Moores play does not deserve a big deal with our limited cap space. If guys like mangold and Harris can't fill the role now they never will, these are not young NFL players anymore. Lets not forget untill he's traded Revis should be included in this supposed leadership pool.

The Jets are doing the right thing in moving on from Moore and Keller... They don't need to overpay old aging Vets on a rebuilding team. Moore was a good player for us and I liked him as a Jet, but its time to move on now.
The Jets have re-signed a number of "their own" the past few years and have given out some big contracts in doing so. I disagree with the idea that they haven't. Aside from Braylon Edwards who had off the field issues and Lowery, the rest of that list includes guys we let go at the right time. It would have been nice to keep Woody too, but he retired.
Hopefully they can find a way to keep Moore on the team. I thought he was fairly solid. Seems sort of odd that we didn't talk with him a lot, though
The Bears are said to be intrested in Brandon Moore, He is as good as gone. We dont want him back. We will likely draft a younger GUARD. I think we may bring back Devito, We will find out more on Tuesday once free agency starts will see what Idzik has up his sleeve
Jets don't seem to care about keeping homegrown players. There are some exceptions but they've let guys go like Leon and cotchery who were true jets. I'm not saying we need to resign Moore but to not even talk to him is disrespectful. I guy we do need to bring back tho is Devito, solid player, leader, fills a hole in the rotation and isn't an expensive player. I know you can't keep everybody but cotchery and Leon were two guys that didn't make sense to me.
I think the point of this thread (which I agree with) is not necessarily resign/let go Brandon Moore. It is more the issue that he has not even been contacted. A player of his tenure, leadership status, and class should be treated better

That's why I said there are some exceptions But there's a picture of revis there and guess what we are trying to trade him instead of extending him. And Sanchez will be gone next year and possibly along with Harris. Pouha has been talked about being cut. We've had some long tenured jets but not that many. But then again with the cap structure it's hard to keep everyone. I'm just being biased I guess want to keep jet favorites such as Ellis, cotchery, Leon, revis, Devito, Pouha, Moore, Kevin mawea. I guess I just have my favorites that I want to be a jet for life and to only play in a jets uniform
You can't keep everyone forever. A lot of the guys you mentioned spent at least 2 contracts with the Jets. Every team loses guys.
Idzik has been tough so far. He's basically given our FA's the cold shoulder. He is by definition cleaning house wherever he can. He said he wants guys about "We" not "me". Now, I'm not by any means arguing that Moore is a selfish player because he isn't at all. However, he was caught in that public locker room turmoil with Holmes. And make no mistake if Holmes was cuttable or a FA he'd be getting the same treatment.
PFF graded out Moore as the 4th best guard in the league in 2012 and their number one rated FA. He is a good player and his loss has the potential to be Woody like. he is a reliable guy who have given the Jets a lot. I am not saying we should pay him what he will get at market value as he will likely be in high demand but we should at least have the courtesy to talk with him.
Purging of veterans is one way of creating a culture change... I believe that is what is transpiring right now.
there are a lot of veterans being released across the league, since the cap next year is almost flat. we end up releasing more guys due to the guaranteed contracts that tannybum saddled the team with. we have an inside lb making over $11 million, a qb who is a turnover machine making about $10 million, and two cbs totaling about $14 million, one of whom wants $16 million per year to extend. teams across the league are not going to tie up big money on anything other than a franchise qb. too many players over $10 million/year means you have paper-thin depth unless you draft well. :sad:
