http://theredzone.org/BlogDescription.aspx?EntryId=2149 This doesn't surprise me. I've been anticipating a 2011 lockout for about a year now. If there is no progress toward the a new CBA then I would expect the Union look towards de-certifying as a way of breaking the lockout, a la Freeman McNeil.
If the Jets continue to improve next year, like I expect, they could be Super Bowl favorites headed into the 2011 season. So yeah, no doubt there will be a lockout if that is the scenario. Haha.
i just can't believe they are not gonna get this done.there is way too much money on the table to let this blow up
Money is the reason that they will not get it done. Ownership thinks they can make more money a different way and that they have the power to break the union. That's why I think decertifying the union is the best way to go. The owners lose their anti-trust exemptions and are forced to answer to the players in the courts.
This sounds less to me like there will be a lockout than it does that the head of the NFLPA is out of leverage and is now trying to panic the union into applying pressure to Goodell.
Until the Union can negotiate a new CBA with the owners, there is going to be a lockout. Right now ownership feels they can get the union to cave without having to give into their demands. They should be pressuring Goodell at this point or the players are going to get the short, shit-covered end of the stick.
