Aaron Rodgers has told the Jets today he has NO INTENTION to retire. He will rehab and plans on seeing his contract through. -SOURCE- pic.twitter.com/ioWlhr5iFW — JetCast (@JetCastPod) September 13, 2023
Great news. However better news would be him never coming back because the Jets go all the way this year.
I love the idea behind this, but the reality is that even as great as it would be this year, next year it wouldn't be good. If the Jets were to go all the way this year, that would mean that either Zach developed and reached his potential or that they brought in another QB who led them to the SB win. Then, unless Rodgers were to retire, it could put the Jets in the position of either telling their SB winning QB that he would become a backup to Rodgers in 2024, letting him walk in FA (if it was a FA QB signed for just this season), telling Rodgers that he would be the backup, or asking him to retire. I don't think they could even trade him because they'd take a $66 million dead money hit (or more). Either way it could be messy, be very controversial, and could divide the team. I don't think we have to worry about any of that happening however.
I take it this means he’ll be Around and helping ZW this year, ASAP? On an aside, anyone else worried like I was that he’d be infuriated with Hackett for calling cut blocks he didn’t want, and now he’s hurt?
True I dont think it happens either but if Wilson somehow did show growth and big steps forward, along with a playoff win or two, it does make the whole thing more difficult. Wouldn't mind if it happened though, it would the FO problem then to figure out.
A 40 year old ar behind a horrendous offensive line coming off a major injury taking up 1/4th of the cap space what can go wrong?
Maybe the $60 million dollar man will get a bionic Achilles tendon transplant and will return sooner than next season.
It's confirmed. Aaron Rodgers is coming back. I posted this earlier on another thread. This appeared this evening on the New York Jets Twitter feed. New York Jets Twitter Aaron Rodgers
