Apparently the monkey that calls the defensive plays for us wants to move back home for the DC job in SF. What an absolute disaster this organization is right now. https://x.com/ustadium/status/1764634215356694718?s=46&t=7QmGYutnlvJKPKoQYueflA
No but he use to play for the Niners, believe he’s from the SF area too. No team would be letting their coach leave unless it were for promotion. The article states even if push came to shove, Ulbrich probably wouldn’t have left anyways. But the building loves Ulbrich and I’m kinda surprised he didn’t get more interviews for HC spots, but when dealing with a team who hasn’t had much success, maybe that was the big reason, despite how good the defensive units have been the past few years.
I totally accept that my take on him is based on a few minutes of coverage in Hard Knocks, but I did not think he came across well. If someone else wanted him, then I could well be wrong.
As the news, rumors, innuendos and right down BS reports keep surfacing, day in and day out, my long time loyal commitment to the Jets unfortunately keeps drifting into the "I really don't care anymore about what I read." i do believe there is a massive level of leadership dysfunctionality starting with ownership, and no words or promises will mean two shits until we start behaving like a professional, successful winning organization. Meantime, rumors now seem to indicate that the KC Chiefs are very interested in acquiring Becton in free agency, which further solidifies the notion that this OC staff is absolutely worthless at developing young talent successfully. It is a foregone conclusion to me where the bulk of the issue resides....and it's not with the player talent base.
I often question if Ulbrich knows what he is doing. I don't like the insane rotation on the d-line and I dont like how he keeps his safeties wayyyy too far back. But the defense does play hard for him.I guess I can't argue with results, top 5/10 defense by all the metrics last year
Good for the Jets. He's under contract they're under no obligation to grant his wish. I don't understand how that's not tampering. So another team can't contact a player if he's under contract but they can contact a coach under contract?
Exactly. Unless this is a promotion, he is under contract with us. And for him a promotion is only HC op. Why would we let him go for the same position, he was actually good? The Jets need to do what's best for the Jets. Also notice the wording: "but NY would’ve never let him leave for the same position elsewhere". "Would have". Meaning it didn't actually happen? Is this again Rosenblatt and Russinni at work?
Not surprised that he'd want to leave. If you've got a chance to get off the Titanic, you take it. Once our Super Bowl, or rather I mean the uniform reveal, is over in April, it's going to be a long, long time to wait until January 2025 when we can bid farewell to our incompetent head coach and general manager.
I swear I didn't know this when I said it above, but this is in fact again Rosenblatt's report. The give away was Jets "would have" never let him go. As in SF never actually asked the Jets to even talk to Ulbrich. Meaning it never happened. How did I know you ask? Same report as before with Zach "reluctant" to play. As in no one actually asked him, but he "would have" said no. Except when actually asked he said yes.
That he wanted to leave in the first place SHOULD raise red flags at Florham Pk. The coaching departures had almost become a flood. Now the Jets put their foot down and said no, you're gonna coach for us until your contract is up only guarantees that Ulbrich will be in the bldg and on the sidelines however, one cannot underestimate how important it is for a person to WANT to be part of something rather than being FORCED to. When this apocalypse is finally over, there probably will be no one left standing other than Woody who will then proceed to fck up the next hire like he always does.
