ughhh???? If anything this is a great depth signing who could do wonders for a guy like justin miller and derrick strait. Mickens was always a solid player for us so this is in no way a bad signing

Mickens was generally a good player. He had a horrible game against Washington in 1999.

It was right after Parcells idiotically gave him a new contract. (Do that in training camp or right after the season- not in Week 3!).

I think he got called for pass interference three times and two times the receiver caught the ball anyway!

Well he's not a horrid choice no, but we could have spent some money elsewhere. He's not going to start, and he's old anyways. It was a rather useless signing in my eyes.

Look at what Belichek did with Otis Smith, or even Troy Brown. You can't underestimate the value of a savvy veteran, even if he doesn't have the speed or size, or even the youth to compete on a level playing field anymore.

Christ. Ok, first move by the new FO that I don't like. Mickens was a good player for us, but he was way past his prime. Hopefully he will be very deep on the depth chart and only here to teach the yougins. Ugh....

i like mickens. played his entire carear in green before we made room for law. i really like a vet in the secondary. i know barrett has been around. dyson is still young. i was looking for a vet fa safety. mickens back is a suprise. didnt he have some things to say about herms handling the team with so many injuries last year? plus mangini has seen him play plenty over the years. im glad hes back.

Nothing wrong with the signing, good veteran depth.

I wish the Jets had kept Mickens and never signed T. Law last year. He is a quality guy who learned a lot from Mangini. He will be a locker room presence that helps instill the program in Hempstead. Mangini may not be sold on Strait as his nickel.

Guess he will challenge Coleman for the 5th CB spot.

Ray was a good player and didn't bitch being passed over as a starting CB. Except for Aaron Glenn, there weren't too many decent starting CBs for the Jets in the passed 10 years and Mickens sucked it up always being the bridesmaid. Mickens was small, but only an inch or so shorter than Glenn. When Ray started, he usually played well.

The injury 2 years ago hurt, and he was released due to "cap reasons" by Bradway.

I'll take Mickens leadership to help the young players in our secondary.

Ray Mickens will always be one of my favorite Jets for not giving up and working his butt off........a class player.

Mangini knows a true leader and a player who puts the team FIRST, and Ray has always put the Jet's interests before his.

Experience is valuable in this league, nothing wrong with signing a verteran, considering that our secondary is very young.

well if you look at out cornerbacks they are all young. Dyson Barrett miller strait and coleman. There is no true veteran leadership. Mickens will probally be 5th or even 6th on the depth chart, but he provides the veteran attitude in which he has been there done that and will teach his younger players.

He was much better as a nickel corner than a starter. Mickens was one of the best at covering slot receivers.

It's not like we gave him another two million a year Parcells contract. He was brought in probably to help guide our nickel backs in how to cover slot receivers.
