http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/ncaa/05/09/ucf.shooting.ap/index.html ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Central Florida cornerback Johnell Neal was injured during a shooting in his hometown of Baton Rouge, La. His condition wasn't immediately clear, the university said. Coach George O'Leary said he spoke with Neal and the player's mother. A phone message left with Baton Rouge police was not immediately returned Friday. Neal graduated from UCF last week and was expected to start work on another bachelor's degree this summer. Hopefully a non-issue...been a rough offseason so far. I'm looking forward to the secondary coming back intact.
I saw this last week, apparently the shooters believed Neal was involved in an altercation from a few years back. He's a terrific student, and a talented corner, hopefully he will be ready for the season.
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police say the man believed to have shot a local football star Friday morning is in custody. They say 23-year-old Emmanuel Davis was arrested Friday night around 8:00. Davis is charged with attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and aggravated criminal damage to property. He is accused of shooting 22-year-old Johnell Neal multiple times, while he was standing in front of his residence on Wyandotte Street around 2:30 Friday morning. Before becoming a standout player at the University of Central Florida, Neal played for Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge. Police say Davis turned himself in to authorities without incident.
Man, that's rough to hear. I hope he's doing well, I just had a class with him last semester. He's one funny kid.
I just read another article on the shooting... Either Johnell is made of kevlar, or the shooter is the worst shot in the world. How does someone being charged with THREE counts of attempted murder get bond??
I simply don't know... And yeah, 6 shots and he's still kicking...that's pretty unbelievable. Hopefully the recovery is going well, and he is able to fully recover.
