http://blogs.courant.com/yankees/2007/06/clippard_sent_d.html It was pretty obvious that it was going to happen, but Tyler Clippard was sent down after the game. "Nobody wants to get sent down," he said, "but it happens to a lot of guys. I'll just take it as a big learning experience and get back up here as soon as I can." Clippard was a typical case, the Yankees have a few of these this year, of a guy who came up and pitched well in his first start when there's no video or scouting report on him, but as word got around that he struggled with throwing first-pitch strikes, he had trouble getting through a big league lineup. At 22, he showed the Yankees a lot - he did win three games - and they like his fiery make-up. But realistically, with only a couple of months in Triple A, he needs more time to sharpen his stuff. The Yankees won't need a fifth start until next Saturday, so they brought up outfielder Kevin Thompson to bolster the bench for now. Torre said it will "most likely" be Kei Igawa coming up to be the No.5 starter next week. That's the right move at this point.
Update: Hughes (hamstring/ankle) won't throw off of a mound until late June or early July and is now expected to be out until August. There are some within the organization who believe he'll miss the rest of the season, the New York Daily News reports.
Probably never this year. He's on the 60 day DL..that usually means the year and it's about time they got rid of Clippard.
Good. Now T-Clip can focus on his control and hopefully improve that immensely, because it has been horrid. Look forward to seeing him next season though, I like him.
He needs to revamp his whole style of pitching. If you were watching channel 11, instead of YES, Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez picked up by the third inning every single pitch he was about to throw by his arm angle.
I don't know about that, but I would agree that he could tweak his style a little bit. He looks as if he's putting so much wear and tear on his whole body in his motion...A tweak, sure, but not revamp his entire style.
