    Ty Law
A cornerback's life can be a lonely one. Ty Law knows this all too well.

Law has spent most of his life covering wide receivers one-on-one on what feels like an island. But for much of the past year, Law spent a lot of hours on a field, often by himself, simulating games in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Sometimes with the help of a trainer, Law would pretend to cover a wide receiver by running patterns and routes. He would run himself through two-minute drills with his trainer throwing passes at him. When the trainer wasn't around, Law would use his imagination.

"If my trainer wasn't there to throw me balls, I would go out there and play against the air," Law said. "Five, 10 plays in a row, I would do posts, different routes, and imagine. You have a hell of an imagination when you are out there by yourself."

Not even Law could have even envisioned how his return to the Jets would go. Just days after the Jets signed him, Law found himself covering Randy Moss and partipating in 57 plays in the Jets' 34-31 overtime win in New England on Nov. 13.

Until then, the 34-year-old hadn't played in a game since ending the 2007 season with the Chiefs. Now, in only his second game back against Tennessee Sunday, Law could find himself in the starting lineup. He said there's a "pretty good chance" of starting opposite Darrelle Revis.

"I would be completely comfortable with him starting," Eric Mangini said of putting Law in over rookie Dwight Lowery. "He's a guy I've had a long relationship with and I feel very comfortable with in terms of his preparation, his level of conditioning and his performance."

After spending his last two years with the Chiefs, Law said he wanted to end his career on a winning note. That is why he kept training and considered the Patriots before choosing to return for a second stint with the Jets.

"Being in Kansas City, that wasn't the way I wanted to end my career," said the 14-year pro. "I made a lot of plays, won a lot of accolades, won Super Bowls, made a lot of money, it just wasn't enough. Even though I think I could have held my head up high, I had a hell of a career, I wasn't fulfilled. I wasn't done."

Obviously, an amazing pick-up for the jets--again, Mike T. shows he doesn't sit still. This is the kind of move that good franchises with SB hopes make.

It was interesting reading about how he used his imagination to stay in shape. Raymond Berry did that as well. But what Berry did was replay games. Down to the minutes spent on the sideline while the defense was out, to timeouts...everything.

Until he gets burned and his legs show his age then everyone will be burning down the house.

and FTR, I'm a Michigan fan and a big Ty Law fan...

the Jets have gotten burned once all year, when Lowery got beat by Jackson. Other than that, what was the other time this secondary got killed by the deep ball? I can't recall one.

The other attempts, Revis Christ picked them off to end the game.

I don't see Law fucking up that badly. A PI call yes, but not getting killed deep.

^^Even if he gets beat deep and he gets tired and he's no good--he's still an awesome pick-up by Mr. T--just on the possibilities he provides. Sure, this forum will rip him to shreds but it doesn't change the fact. If I read you right, I think you agree.

^Except for that one to the right sideline in SD, which I guess is the one you're referring to, I can't think of one either. Also in the SD game, didn't chambers get wide open over the middle for a big gain? I think the announcers blamed that one on Harris--surely there was no DB around.

Regarding the "big receivers" against us, Moss, OCinco, Housh, "Ginn", Jav Walker (did he play?), (didn't see the St. louis game, is holt still on that team?) we have basically shut them down outside of the SD game.

The press loves to state the secondary is a problem--actually, I think our secondary is our best aspect on the D. It's the short and middle game that expose our weakness on D. Don't know the relative contribution of lack of good LB play and poor defensive scheme here.

I actually feel more comfortable with Law in there over Lowery at this point. I think Lowery is going to develop into a really good corner once he gets some more experience under his belt, but after the way Law played last week when he only had only had two days to practice with the team - how could you not play him?

It's just another bold move to try and improve this team throughout the season. The more the season wears on, the more and more it looks like the jets are on the cusp of possibly being a SB contendor.

If there is a chance to improve your roster this late in the year, you do it. Ty Law played a hell of a game against NE, and even on that TD to moss late, he had PERFECT coverage. Can't ask for any more out of him on the play.

There are doubts, mostly I think due to age and possibility of being out of shape, that he can go full board all game long as a starter, however, he clearly showed he has some ability left, and while he may not be able to go every snap, he'll be in there when we need him. ANd, I am comfortable that.

Great move. Worst case is he gets worn out and we go back to what we had before him.
