I believe nobody mentioned this, but correct me if im wrong. WHY? WHY did we go for the two point conversion in the third quarter? Hell, we were gonna do it the first time, got charged with a penalty and then had to kick the extra point. But, we came back and did it again. I wish i could remember the score at the time, but it was in the third quarter, and had we simply went for the extra point we could have tied the game up with a field goal on that final drive and went in to overtime. Big time mistake by the coaching staff there, is there ever a reason to go for two points in the third quarter? My only explanation for this is that our coaching staff thought we wouldnt be able to get in the endzone again and had to get within 3 points or tie it (once again i wish i could remember the score) But i still dont buy that. I hate to say it cost us the game because a lot of things cost us the game but what a terrible mistake.
It's been talked about pretty endlessly in the "fire rex ryan", "rex ryan sucks" threads. It was a questionable decision that is VERY VERY easy to second guess after it occurs. If they make that 2 point they are only down a field goal and it looks great. I don't like the fade to Edwards on that play because i always hate that play. Looking back, it was a bad decision to go for 2 in the 3rd quarter.
Yes, it was a poor decision. A question I have is what was up with that penalty on the succesful 2 pointer in the fourth quarter? I didn't see it, and the announcers didn't either. If we get that 2, then we just kick a FG to put the game into overtime. Sigh.
Dont get me wrong, im very behind ryan and have been from the start, I just think that call in particular was terrible, not bashing the coaching staff at all though. And yea, that fade hasnt worked since keyshawn, that was a goddamn terrible call.
Feel free to criticize the call, but it actually didn't affect the outcome of the game at all. If the Jets kick the extra point the first time, then the Dolphins kick the extra point on their TD afterwards, and the Jets are 4 points behind at the end without going for 2 (everyone seems to be forgetting that the Dolphins also went for 2 and didn't get it, which, by the way, was an absolutely awful decision by Sparano). The first decision to go for 2 was definitely questionable (but ultimately irrelevant), but the second one was absolutely the right decision. As to the illegal shift call, while the announcers on both radio and TV said they didn't see it, Sanchez explicitly said after the game that it was his fault - he didn't allow the man (I forget who) to get set. A stupid rookie mistake that hopefully won't happen again.
Rex had faith in the offense that they would get it done. It's an aggressive move and if they make those conversion it looks great. I'm wondering if schotty has an effective plan for two point conversion.
If we had converted it, we only would have had to kick a FG in the end. Might as well try and get the two pts early and be done with it. Its common sense.
