Twins & Joe Mauer agree to 8 year, $184M deal (Source)
MINNEAPOLIS -- AL MVP Joe Mauer has agreed to an eight-year, $184 million contract extension to stay with the Minnesota Twins.

The deal announced Sunday covers the 2011-2018 seasons and includes a full no-trade clause. It's the culmination of a monthslong negotiation between the Twins and their hometown star.

Mauer has won three AL batting titles and an MVP award. He is considered one of the best defensive catchers in the game. Last year he hit .365 with 28 home runs and 96 RBIs to help the Twins win the AL Central division.

The St. Paul native was the No. 1 overall pick by the Twins in 2001.

Yeah, I'd totally sacrifice a World Series ring for 1/5th of a BILLION dollars.

What an idiot. Enjoy never sniffing the World Series and leaving, at least, $50 million dollars on the table.

Yankee fans are gonna be mad that they won't have the chance of poaching Minnesota's hometown, homegrown star for a gagillion dollars.

Yankees fans are upset because they can't sign another superstar. It's like the fat kid in tears because someone ate the last slice of cake.

    SHARE.

Yankee fan here. Not upset. And nothing to get over because this was always a foregone conclusion.

NYY fans did not expect him to hit free agency.
I'm glad he resigned with them.

he could have had 3/10 of a BILLION dollars if he hit the open market (not just from the Yankees) but it's kinda cool to see somebody have that kinda hometown allegiance

He's making $23 million a year for the next 8 years. At some point, probably well before $20 million, it really doesn't make a difference anymore if you get another $4 million.

He's probably going to ask for a trade at some point anyway. There's no way the Twins will be able to win a title with 35% of their payroll going to one guy.

Not surprise, Mauer has said from the beginning he wants to stay in Minn. I don't think he ruined his chances of winning a world series by resigning with the Twins, they are contenders most years being in the Central.

Whoever thought he ever had a chance to be a yankee was living in a pipe dream.

What is scary is Mauer has just begun to hit for power... he is arguably the most valuable player in professional baseball.

Who is upset? He's a great player for Minnesota and I don't blame him one bit playing for his hometown team. Good for him.

The people who say 'he could have gotten more money elsewhere'. May not have explicitly said the yankees but everyone knows the team offering more money is the Yankees.

I personally don't care since I don't follow baseball but it's fun to take shots at Yankee fans.
