Looking at the training camp pictures on Jets.com I noticed that each player was wearing an ALL white helmet, with no NY Jets Logo. Going even further I noticed that the jersey's only had the Reebok logo with no NY Jets logo to be found. At first I thought that we were possibly going to have new uniforms this year. Thankfully that is not the case.... As said on Jets Nation this evening, Mangini has advised all camp players that they must EARN the right to wear a NY Jets logo... Personally, I love this strategy (head game) by Mangini to get the most out of the players by letting them know that it is a PRIVELEDGE to be a part of the NY Jets.
privilege. This type strategy will only work so long. I'm not a huge fan of this type of stuff, but have no problem with it either.
I think that great teachers (& Coaches) have a way of making their point crystal clear and of motivating people to want to do their very best. I don't see the "no logo" strategy as a "head game" as much as a CLEAR and MOTIVATING message. One very small, simple message in a weekend of literally hundreds of messages, but one that makes a POINT and serves a PURPOSE.
i had the same thing in high school... "you gotta earn the G!!!!". I can still hear coach Cal screaming/spitting at me. Not revolutionary coaching methodology here, but solid motivational basic stuff nonetheless. Oh... great avatar. Is that someone we know?
Man probably got this off ESPN as last year they had a report that BP did it in Dallas making them earn the star
I acutally think its a pretty cool idea. And So many coaches do this from highschool to I guess even the pro level THat I highly doubt they all watched espn and learned from Parcells.
When I saw the ESPN show about it last year I thought it was a prettty good motivational tool. Naturally playing for a team that has 4 SBs wins & a team that has one way back in the 60s maybe not have the same effect on rookies or OTH may make our rooks try harder to get the monkey finally off our back
i like it. what mangini is doing is finally establishing an identity for this team. we were a cinderella story last year. and we are now becoming known as a cerebral organization with a concrete plan. not only is it a privilege to play in this league, but an even higher privilege to be a NY Jet. granted from a non bias view, our organization rates somewhere above mediocrity. and somewhere below truly respectable. mangini aims to end that, and last yr was a good start. now lets see if he can show us consistency
I think that they should take it a step further- don't let players have their real names on helmets at first, instead, names like Phil McKrevis, Asshat and Rusty Trumbone are randomly assigned. Only after a player accomplishes "5 Big Things" in minicamp, will their actual name be printed on the helmet.
please.. As a rookie coming into camp your timid. doubt it will have any less effect against future classes.
H'mm I would suspect since they know FB they woul already have known we have won nothing for 38 years & a few months now. It should actually motivate them to try harder to get the Championship monkey off our backs
