Since we only have 6 picks, I am assuming we will be trading down at some point in the draft. Here's what I'm thinking-- Trade out of the first pick to somewhere in the top 10 of the second round, where we can draft either Blalock, Grubbs, Ugoh, Sears, or Staley. I see Blalock probably gone, and am not that high on Staley as a RT, but any of those picks would be nice value. If not, maybe one of the top corners or OLB will be there-maybe Ross, or Spencer. I would guess we could get a 2nd and third, and probably another day 2 pick in return. I think it's a nice plan depending on who is there at 25.
I will not mind that at all.I will love Blalock, but if we trade out and miss Blalock and get an additional pick and still end up with 2 from the group of Grubbs, Ugoh, Sears or Beekman , I will be delighted.
What's up with Beekman? About the only thing I know about him is that he's under 6-2, and that turns me off. I need to find out more about him, maybe he'd be another nice 2nd round guy. Maybe he's really good, but the height is keeping him under those top 2-3 guys.
most guards are no taller than about 6-3, 6-4. So I dont get your point really, if he was a tackle I would understand, those guys are 6-4 min. But guards are 6-4 max.
That's just not true-- Steve Hutchinson is 6-5, as is Allen Faneca. Most are 6-4, that is average height, not the max. Probably 5% of the nfl starters are listed under 6-3. In this years probowl, every guard was 6-3 to 6-5. This guy is under 6-2, and it is clear that his Height is an issue. Anyway, that's why I was asking if anyone knows something good about the guy. I'm all ears with Beekman, I didn't write the guy off, just want to hear something good about him so I can consider him a decent option.
I would say trade down if we cannot get Blalock, but if he is there we have to take him, there is a chance he goes before we pick. There is a big jump between him and Ugoh, Ugoh is an early second round grade for me and would jump down to take him for sure. Ross would be alright if we take him in the second, but I also do not want him in the first, J-Mill all over again, athleticism with no smarts, he will be a slow developer at the NFL level
i really don't want to go o-line at 25...trading down and going o-line would nice though i would hope one of the top cb's falls into our lap, but that might not happen so if the cb's are gone i would favor trading down...i think our best trade value could come if greg olsen falls to us at 25...although it may be tempting for our FO to just draft him
According to a draft value chart, this trade could net us a 2nd, 3rd, and 6th. I would be all in favor of this.
I am always hestitant to trade out of the first round. While it will get you depth you're just not always sure of the players you're getting. If we were to do it, it would have to be as you suggested. We'd also need to find a team that wants to get another pick in the first round or a team such as the Seahawks that traded out of the first round with the Patsies. If they were willing to give up a second and third round pick as well as a second day pick or a second, third and a player already on roster, I'd consider it. We can get good value for an OLine early in round two and deal with everything else later. You raise a great option.
I'm all for trading out of Round 1 and getting a late round pick or 2, but if Spencer is there we take him at #25. I'm jumping on his bandwagon. All I've read or heard is that this guy is superior value at #25.
Blalock is a 1st rd lock man. Ross and Spencer most likely too. not a good idea. we will have major value at 25 with blalock and a top CB/WR sitting at 25.
I would agree with us trading out of the first if Revis or Houston or a good reciever doesnt fall to us at 25. Hopefully we can trade with Miami or Tampa Bay cause they both got 2 2nd round picks. With that we could get potentially Justin Blalock OG, Sidney Rice WR, Quentin Moses OLB and Eric Wright CB.
if we could do that, It would be a killer draft, no arguing that! Blalock will instantly give us a roadgrader RG that we lack.... Rice will inprove an alread good WR core, and give us a good #3 Moses is going to be an NFL beast, I think he might be better then we all think Wright is round 1 talent no doubt, arguably the best of the cover corners...only thing holding him back is his questionable character who really would complaing with this draft in only the first 2 rounds?
If Blalock is on the board at 25 he would be my first choice. I would certainly consider trading down if he's gone at that point. I'm not a big fan of taking cornerbacks in the first round, the system we use is not based on man to man coverage where you need guys like Champ Bailey. What you need is players with good size, who are smart, decent speed and can tackle. The Pats haven't taken a secondary player in the first round since BB went there and I would surpised if Mangini took one. The bottom line is that your secondary is only as good as your front 7.
