I just received a report that Maccagnan said we're open for business for all picks. Started taking a look at the teams with multiple picks so I figured I'd start a thread for potential scenarios. I'm also thinking we may try to get as much 2018 ammo as possible to move up and get a quarterback if we don't get the top pick. Cleveland trade up to get Fournette or another elite defender? #12 + #33 for #6 They also own #52 Arizona leapfrogging the Bills, Saints to get their QB of the future? #13, #45 + #77 for #6 Colts move up to get an elite RB or edge rusher? #15, #47 & 3rd rounds for #6 Pulling some of these out of thin air. What do y'all think?
I hope we trade down. Because all the guys I hope we don't get are gonna be at the top. Also, we are gonna need more picks after all these cuts.
Please refer to the following chart and make sure the points line up: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/draft/draft-trade-chart/ For example your first trade scenario involves us getting the 33rd pick from Cleveland. For us to also get the 12th pick we would need to throw in another 180 points. According to the chart we could also involve the Titans in a three way trade where pick 6 gets us: Pick 18 - 900 points Pick 33 - 580 points Pick 97 - 112 points Total - 1592
Teams don't follow that chart. That was a chart that Jimmy Johnson made up and it's sort of a rough guide, but lots of trades have happened that didn't strictly follow that chart.
The JJ chart overvalues early picks at the expense of later ones. This chart is much better. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/index9a9b.html?p=527
Thank You for the Post JV...and Welcome to the LIGHT guys!! Must be the GM has our wavelength for a Trade Down ahaha To me the Charts are confusing.. Common sense says get as many low number (closer to the top # in draft) for your #6 because the odds of finding a starter look higher...The Vilmas scenarios look great to me FTR IMO there are at least 3 other Team who need to reach for a QB: Cleveland Chicago and SF so I bet they come up with offers between now and DD
While the charts are inexact they are a good rule of thumb. Cleveland has lots of holes to fill. Even if they trade up from 12 to 6 we are much more likely to get the second of their third round picks instead of pick 33. What the chart is saying is that your trade might be unrealistic. I won't complain if Cleveland did something that stupid but you don't base your entire strategy for the draft on an event that is not going to happen.
Well, they've decided to do what all the smart teams do and build a team through the draft: "The Jets are interested in acquiring additional picks because they want to rebuild through the draft and they'd like as many choices as possible "to expedite the process." " http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2017/s...-team-draft-picks-including-no-6-overall-sale Let's see how long that lasts before Woody decides he needs to make a splash with a "star" in the in the first round. Not to turn this into an Idzik debate, but Idzik's problem was not his philosophy of using the draft and accumulating picks, which was right on the money and the reason i was happy when he was hired...But rather, his lack of personnel/talent evaluation experience which led him to not hire good talent evaluators, and ultimately led to wasting picks on less talented/untalented players...And maybe his worst problem was his overall lack of confidence in his own evaluation skills which led to his inability to maneuver before/during the draft (i.e. no trading up or down of any of those 12 picks) and instead forced him to have to "win" trades vs. pulling the trigger on something to turn those picks into something useful...Personally, that 12 pick fiasco solidified to me that Idzik had to go, good philosophy but no ability to execute it...On the other hand, Mac seems to have a great confidence in not only his own evaluation skills, but those of the people he's hired...The "open for business" mantra and his ability to maneuver within the draft speak directly to that and that makes me feel good about this "tear down / build back up". Time will ultimately tell if Mac can pull this off, but i'm thinking for the first time in decades we may have a GM in place that not only has the right philosophy but the skillset and experience to execute it.
part of that problem was him not being allowed to overhaul the scouting dept. he still had bradway in there running things and woody made him untouchable.
I think they do follow the chart. It gets out of proportion when there is competition for a particular player.
Still fondly referred to as possibly one of the most talented drafts in NFL history. Yet, Idzik with his 12 picks manage to pick the worst shit in a draft where it was actually hard to find shit?! This is a comedy that could only happen with the New York Jets....
You should be so lucky to make a living working one hour a week during football season hanging out with Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long. Jimmy Johnson is no dummy.
