While I'm not totally sold on throwing away the season we are 3-5 So while we have a high chance for a top ten draft +/- a couple slot cause we are the Jets Will we finally trade down this year? and possibly stock pile draft picks? All this talk about how deep this years 2nd round is I'd put up the for sale sign up. Like the discussion about Jones & Teo(Bad spelling) if those 2 are gone and noone with a top 10 value is left... I hope we trade down. Just want to discuss the possiblity because we still lack depth
I think you're spot on, trade back into later Rd 1 and get at least another Rd 2 pick. Round 2 is going to be a solid round next April.
This draft lacks elite players meanwhile last years had Luck, RG3, Trent and even Kalil who is playing at a probowl level (I dont think he's allowed a sack this year).... If Jones and Te'O are gone and we dont draft a QB, we should definitely trade down. There's not many players in the top 10 that present top 10 value. Trading down 10 or so spots and pick up an extra 2nd would be ideal. That way we could potentially address OLB, RB, G and TE/WR in the first 3 rounds.
My point exactly trade back for more picks( maybe clevland ) or someone that has multiple 2nd rounders. I want to keep our high 2nd though its key to success in the draft i believe
But now if the top 10 is weak, are we going to find a willing trade partner to give up what we want to move up that high? (just throwing out hypotheticals)
Yeah thats the one question... Im sure someone is going to want someone and we could trade down. Theres always draft day trades every year as we all know.
I couldn't agree more. With as many holes that need to be filled, we should, unless of course Jones or Te'o were there. This draft is full of great second round players.
If theres an elite 3-4 olb/4-3 de (depending on w.e the hell Rex wants us to go) you jump on it. If not I agree trade down (I dont see us being a top 10 pick, well prob be in the 15-20 range) Then grab a tackle guard rush stopping old/de another lb (4-3 olb?) and maybe another mid round hb. i think addressing the offensive line and outside containment for run defense have the be our 2 biggest priorities. And the OL needs at LEAST 2 early picks and probably a mid rounder as well.
I agree. If their is Jones or Teo(Pass Rusher in General) Sure fire pick grab it! We need the talent. But like stated if there is any doubt in any play availible and is not worth the value of the pick we have SELL SELL SELL we need some bodies for better chances of striking GOLD
Sorry I do not want to trade back. The team needs more impact talent. A pash rushing stud would be perfect for the team. You see what Suggs brings to the table for the Ravens, that is exactly what we need. I want to draft a pash rusher, qb and Tyler Eiffert in the first 2 rounds. Yes that would include some form of trade. And then find a RB (who has more than the Shonn Greene 1 gear) in round 3.
Take it one step further. Trade our first this year to st Louis for their two first round picks next year as well as a 4th this year. Trade revis for a first next year. Have 4 first round picks in 2014 where there will be a lot more premium talent than this years draft. Clowney, bridgewater, lee, Cooper, etc. With a lot of guys coming off the book, we can sign some good free agents and start anew. Do it woody.
I'm becoming more and more convinced we'll have a top 10 pick, and as bad as the team looks it's really possible we wind up with a top 5 pick. No way we get to #1-3, but I could see maybe 4 at the highest, but I think 5 is about the highest pick we'll get, I'm still pretty sure we'll wind up between 8-12 in the draft order. Course with my luck the Jets will lose their next 3 games then win the last 4 to wind up a 7-9 and a 15-19 pick, which has a minimal trade down value. But I agree, if we're top 10 and Jones and Teo are gone, and there's noone that's a sure thing impact player left on the board trade down. and get a second, and if there's another trade available trade down again for more picks. This team needs ALOT of depth. And I really want to take a 2nd or 3rd round QB for development. I'm not enamored enough with any QB's to take in the top 5.
I think you're on point. I don't believe the QB is the answer in Rd 1 in 2013. If Jones and Te'o are gone, there could be a few other solid option in Round 1. Chance Warmack is one of the best Guards to be available in a decade and could be a selected in the 8-12 range. Our O-line needs to be addressed in early in the draft.
There is always someone who a team covets where they think they see something other teams don't and are willing to trade up to grab them. Heck even if we were drafting and Jones was on the board, I'd be very tempted to trade down to a team like the Rams for their two firsts and maybe a third if they coveted him as a truly elite player.
Can't believe I missed this post. Agreed. I actually think Chance could very well drop down in to the 15-20 range. Guards are always so undervalued in the NFL on draft day. I honestly think two of the top 5 picks on draft day will be QB's just because there are a couple teams desperate for help at QB, so desperate that if Sanchez wasn't making so much next year we could probably get a 3rd for him. I think in the top 15 we'll see 2 maybe 3 QB's total, 3-4 DE's/OLB's. 1-2 DT's 3-4 OT's, 1-2 CB's, 1-3 WR's, 1-2 ILB go before the first OG goes. So I really could see him dropping to as low as 20 or so just because of how much the position is undervalued compared to the other positions. I also would not be surprised to see at least one RB go before Chance. I'm not saying those are better choices than Chance, just the way I see it breaking. Of course part of that will depend on how the top 20 teams wind up in the draft as there are some teams that prioritize BPA as opposed to a BPA/Need balance.
Trading down is a draftniks dream. We always want more picks. That said, with where we should end up we are missing out on the top ten type talents and may have trouble finding a partner to deal with. The mid first feels a lot like no mans land this year. With the lack of big time game changes at the skill positions and pass rushers there is not a ton of the type of players teams want to move up for to get that final price to the puzzle in place.
Agreed, trading down if we're in the mid teens isn't really much of an option, especially if we draft say 16th and Chance Warwick is still on the boards. And you are quoting my biggest fear, that we'll play well enough down the stretch to wind up with a mid teen pick.
You can only trade down if there's an elite talent available and that team really wants him but then again this team lacks "elite" talents so I think we have to get 1, a guy coaches will gameplan for and take our team to the next level, preferably the defense since the offense is too inept to be effective with just 1 piece and the value is always better in the 2nd sometimes 3rd round.
