Jets recently had four players into the facility which included Marcus McCauley and Justin Blalock

I also think that have tremendous interest in Ikaika-Alaima Francis. So here is my thought on a possible early draft for the Jets:

    25. Justin Blalock

I think that he is the perfect Mangini player and likely the best player available at 25. OG is one of, if not our biggest need along with cornerback. If Blalock is there at 25 (getting past Dallas and KC) I think we take him.

However, there will likely be either a high CB (Houston, Ross) or WR (Meachem, Bowe or Jarrett) available at 25, as well as TE Olsen. This would open up the possibility of a trade, where we could still get Blalock.

The best trade scenarion is to swap with New Orleans 1.25 for 1.27 and New Orleans fifth rounder so that they can insure themselves of Olsen. I doubt the Eagles would take Blalock so we pick up another fifth rounder.

Another good possibility here would be San Diego. San Diego really needs a top receiver, and is otherwise set, so they do not need to stockpile picks. As deep as WR is, if there has been a run on WRs they may want to come up and grab one. We could conceivably trade 1.25 for 1.30 and 1.93 for 25. A little short on the value chart, but only Baltimore in between might take WR, so this might work out well for both. Philly loves WRs and could take one as well but less likely. We still likely get Blalock and another third rounder.

41 Marcus McCauley (trade with Minnesota)

If we take Blalock, all of the top CBs will be gone by our first 2nd. We will nbe looking at best at someone like Josh Wilson or Daymeion Hughes. To get McCauley, we have to move up.

The trade I propose would be 1.63, 1.89 and McCairens. It is a lot, but the other choice would be 1.59, 1.63 for 1.41 and 1.105. I do not like that as much. This trade is a no brainer if we can make the trade with San Diego. It is a little dicier if we pick at 25, or do the trade with NO. We would definitely need Smith to step up at WR next year, and would need help from Wallace Wright or a pre-season free agent WR pick up. WR becomes a big second day need, or we need to work another trade to get back into the third or fourth round

    59 Ikaika Alaima-Francis

I just do not see him lasting to 1.89. He has too much potential. He is the draft version of Adalius Thomas. He could play end for us in either the 3-4 or 4-3 sets, could play OLB and we could even use him on occasion as a 2 down ILB. Has a huge ceiling and would improve our defense from day 1. High character guy, smart and hard working.

So that would be our first day. We would have really addressed some of our biggest needs at OL and CB with people who could start from day 1 and upgraded our defensive flexibility a lot with Francis. It does not address NT, which I do not think is really addressable at all in this draft, nor WR, which I think is actually one of our biggest needs.

This is the only way I see to get a higher graded corner and Olineman in this draft, and I think also that these are the guys we are targeting. If we choose CB at 25, we will have to go with a reach for Ramirez at 89, or possibly Beekman at 59 but once Blalock and Grubbs go off, Beekman will likely follow somewhere before 59, so he will not be an option.

    Interested to hear people's thoughts.
