That's kinda what I was thinking. Vinnie's knowledge of the game has got to be 1st rate. He did say that he did not want to be a coach, when he was exiting NY, though. I do think he would make a good one.
I thought they had signed Fiedler for a stretch of training camp this year. If he's recovered from his injury, not sure why they wouldn't try him first before trading for a QB -- Ramsey, no less.
The only reason to keep Ramsey around is to avoid throwing Clemens to the wolves if Chad goes down with an injury. Seriously, is there anybody here who thinks Ramsey is capable of leading the Jets to wins? The Redskins were the most underachieving team in football from 2002 to 2004 and Ramsey was the main reason. Huge talent brought in every year and they still could not break out of the doldrums. The Jets don't have remotely that level of talent and they wouldn't win more than a handful of games with Ramsey at the helm.
Volek is no longer available: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2593817 Also, he didn't get beat out by a rookie. The plan all along was for Tennessee to play Young a series per half on average. That means Young had to stay #2 so he could play. This means Collins beat him out only (which is a big statement in itself). I personally think there is more going on there than we know. Last year, they wouldn't trade him to the Jets to the 5th or 6th they are about to get for him...
I don't see the Jets trading Ramsey. It's probably that Penny may go down at some point this season and it's too early to throw Clemens to the wolves... just don't see our FO doing this even if the rumor that they contacted us is true.
I've found nothing about this at all. I would trade Ramsey for a pair of pants, and 2 first-class stamps at this point. Penny is our guy until Clemens takes the helm. Ramsey was an interesting, but doomed to failure, experiment. Take whatever we can get for him. If it's an OL then all the better. Sadly, I would take back Becht for his run-blocking ability, if the opportunity presented itself. I would never want the ball to come near him in the air though. And Sowell, if you can find a way to scam them Ramsey for Pittman, I'll worship you as a new sun-god.
the jets aren't gonna trade ramsey, and the bucs aren't gonna bench Simms. He isnt the issue on that team, the oline is the issue. There is no push, Cadillac williams isnt hitting the holes, and simms isnt getting time. Ramsey is gonna be a jet for at least the rest of this season...he might be in tampa next year, but for now, hes in green.
Joseph is a stretch. A more realistic trade would be for his back up Jeb Terry, 5th round draft pick in 2004 out of North Carolina. "The unquestioned leader of the Tar Heels' blocking unit, the former defensive tackle made a smooth adjustment to the opposite side of the ball ? Plays with a take-no-prisoners attitude, drawing comparisons to St. Louis Rams standout Adam Timmerman for his tenacity and sound mechanics ? Called by USA Today's Sports Weekly, "the best pass protecting offensive guard" in college football."
