The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporting that Adam LaRoche has been traded to the Red Sox. Haven't seen it backed up anywhere and it's very vague, so who knows. Trade rumor season is officially here. Try to post a link if possible. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09203/985575-100.stm
Listening to WEEI now, apparently the writer was in the clubhouse this morning and was updating from there. LaRoche is not in the lineup for the Pirates.
No he doesn't. He's not great or anything, but he's a decent hitter. He's just Lowell insurance. They need to make other moves as well, and I don't know what they would have given up, but this isn't a bad move at all.
11:49am: Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports that Manny Delcarmen will not be part of the trade. 11:45am: What you need to know about LaRoche: He's a 29-year-old first baseman with a history of hitting well in the second half; his defense is slightly below average; he makes $7.05MM this year before becoming a free agent and he's on the cusp of projecting as a Type B free agent, though he's currently below the cut. mlbtraderumors.com
WEEI now reporting the return is AA shortstop Argenis Diaz and minor league pitcher Hunter Strickland. If that's true then I'm very happy with this deal. http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/bo...09/07/22/report-red-sox-acquire-adam-laroche/
Wouldn't call it a fleecing so much as pretty fair value for a guy like LaRoche. The shortstop seems to be highly lauded for his defense, which the Rays last year and Mariners this year have shown is a great way to turn a pitching staff around. Don't know much about the pitcher, but a young arm is a young arm. I'd certainly take Huntington as the Mets GM, at least he seems to be able to stick to a plan and direction.
Again...meh. Adam Laroche doesn't strike fear in the hearts of the yankees or rays. I guess with the Nats wanting Delcarmen in a deal for Johnson he was the cheaper alternative. The Hinske deal for the Yankees was better.
He's not Adrian Gonzalez or Victor Martinez, but then again he didn't really cost much in terms of prospects either. This is probably the kind of move we should have expected.
Your right you make trades based on ability. And with his .245 batting average and .329 obp they got a lesser player then Nick Swisher. He's also below average defensively. So forgive me if I'm not overwhelmed and cowering with fear at the addition of Adam Laroche to the Red Sox.
