It's the future! NFL CASUALLY REVEALS THERE IS A CHIP INSIDE FOOTBALLS DESPITE USING STICKS AND CHAINS TO MEASURE FIRST DOWNS
The problem with using the chip for first downs is syncing the location with where the knee touched down. That's not easy to do.
Why wouldn’t they have chips in them? We have chips in our fucking vacuum cleaners. It is rather funny that they didn’t mean to mention that.
Only at work. ... Executives from the U.S.F.L. and Fox have confirmed that they are in discussions to implement a first-down laser in all their televised games next season. Unlike the N.F.L.’s yellow marker, the U.S.F.L.’s lime green version will also be visible on the field. Synced with a chip in the ball, the First Down Laser Line uses a combination of sensors, cameras and receivers positioned around a stadium and under the field to measure ball spotting within a sixteenth of an inch, according to the inventor Alan Amron, who added that his system can either automate the first-down decision or enable an official to make the call by asking a watch-like device about down, distance, ball and player location.
I wonder where exactly the chip is? Will they always assume the ball to be directly perpendicular to the line when placing the ball? Because if the ball was sideways when the ball carrier goes down, those extra inches could make a difference. Sent from my SM-S906U using Tapatalk
They would have never traced Kraft to the Orchids of Asia if it wasn't for the bag of footballs in the trunk of his Ford Escape.
There's probably a whole circuit board in there. Why is it a surprise that the NFL prefers methods that are easy to manipulate the end results when ESPN can show us a guy's sperm count on 4th and short? I'm not a big fan of "everyone already knew that" when it comes to conspiracy theories, but this really isn't a theory anymore. It's blatant.
I think a chip in NFL helmets would be more relevant these days. They need to figure out the concussion thing before it kills football and it definitely could do that.
