The Dodgers owner has shown he doesn't want to spend $$$, they also have too much money invested in guys like Pierre and Furcal. Arod won't give the Dodgers a discount because Torre is there but don't be surprised to see guys like Petite, Mo and Posada consider the left coast although I'd rather have Russell Martin over Posada.

Now Torre can be exposed for the fraud he is... he won't last 3 seasons in Hollywood.

I wonder if they were after Girardi and turned to Torre after Girardi agreed to deal with Yankees

They were. Girardi was their first choice.

That would be too good to be true if they all went there.

Fraud is absolutely right. He said during the year this year that he would be fine with a one year contract. He also had incentives in his old contract for the last 4 years so all that garbage about being insulted was just that, garbage. Good riddance.

Sometimes the value is in getting the hell out of a bad situation. My guess is that Torre understood all about Hank's heavy handed ways, which we're seeing just a few weeks into his reign.

Hank is George of 25 years ago. While his Dad is dribbling pudding down his chin, Hank will be reprising the role of angry, activist owner, who will grab a beat writer by the collar whenever the spirit moves him, and rant openly for the entire world to enjoy.

That's not a bad thing as long as he keeps spending where it counts and he seems more then willing to do that. "Where it counts" is what is important and that can only be on pitching. I think they will sign Hunter or Jones(probably not Jones as that is one of Boras's boys) and use Cabrerra in a package to try and get Santana. If they can't do that then they will try and move Matsui and Damon anyway. I would be happy if they swallowed all of Giambi's salary just to get him out of here too.

Don - why do you think Torre is all about the money? Marketing people were saying after Torre left the Yankees, that he could easily make 5,000,000 a year in endorsements and speaking engagements if he so decided. So if he makes 3 million in LA and he is happy, in your eyes he made the wrong decision?

This is exactly the POV I've had all along about most of the guys with the Yankees.

Mo and Posada may leave on principle alone. After the way Bernie was treated, then the two of them were not extended coming into the year, but showed during the season they warranted it, why stay? (And I don't care what anyone thinks, you don't "just replace" one of the best catchers in the league on both sides of the ball, nor one of the best closers in the game. And before I have to see it, Joba should be a starter. He is far more valuable giving us 7-8 once every 5 days than 3-4 in that same span.)

Pettitte retiring leaves a big hole in the rotation. Most of us were calling him next year's #2 starter most of the season. Now Hughes and Joba get moved up, and Moose becomes part of the rotation again.

ARod's production cannot be matched. Blah, blah, October this or that, blah. He's one of the best power hitters in the game who also has a high OBP. Who fills in the #4 spot now?

And what about right field? Does anyone think Abreu is going to stick around? He's got to be thinking to himself right now, "Shit, I have a poor April, and I'm on Girardi's shit list. I'm gone."

So now we need to fill catcher, closer, third base, right field, and get a legit cleanup guy.

Welcome to The Bronx Zoo Part Deux.

Regardless of what some around here love to believe, it's not always about the money.

Sources: Torre undecided on Dodgers job

The Dodgers want Joe Torre to be their next manager. The question is whether Torre wants to manage again so soon after leaving the Yankees.

We won two championships at the height of the Bronx Zoo. That may not be such a bad thing. At least nobody was sleeping on the bench when that was going on.

What's the worse situation though? A heavy handed, reactionary owner that wants to win or a drooling idiot? I'd rather deal with Steinbrenner then manage a Ned Coletti GM'd team.

He said himself in the post-game news conference as soon as they got eliminated that he wasn't not going to stop managing if he didn't resign with the Yankees. I can see him and Mattingly going to the Dodgers. I don't know how well Torre will do though.

Proctor must be thrilled to hear about all of this.

Did Pettitte say he was retiring yet? Last I knew, we didnt know.
And I think the yankees have the option on Abreu unlike Pettitte. So its not up to Abreu whether he wants to stay or not.
Posada is one of the best catchers on both sides of the ball? awesome offensive catcher.....sub par defensive catcher.....
Mo will be back on the Yankees next year
