1-Colts- Luck 2-Browns- Griffin 3-Minn- Kalil 4-Stl-Blackmon 5-TB-Claiborne 6-Wash-Tanneyhill- This is a reach but they have to get a QB somewhere 7-Jack-Ingram-heartbreak for Jets 8-Mia-Rieff 9-Car-Brockers 10-Buff-Coples 11-KC- Richardson-heartbreak #2 12-Sea-Floyd 13-Arz-Martin 14-Dall-Barron 15-Phil-Poe 16-Jets-Upshaw, would rather have Barron or Floyd and take Shea Mccllam in round 2
Washington doesn't have to reach like that in the first, he will easily be there if the Browns trade up , no one else in the top 7 needs a QB after round 1. No way the Jags skip Coples for Ingram, don't overrate Ingram that much. Barron with that injury will not go that high and they especially won't be skipping Kirkpatrick. I also highly doubt the Eagles skip Kuechly for Poe.
Why are people in love with Poe that much? I dont get it. He had GREAT measurables, yes. But his play was good at best. He played in CUSA and managed to only get 33 total tackles and a sack...what spells elite play out of that? Now THAT right there Johnny is some combine bug or whatever you call it... Other than that, I dont see the Redskins reaching by a round on Tannehill, I think KC has bigger needs (DeCastro could fit) and Coples over Ingram.
No way Tannehill goes that high, even with a QB needy team like the Skins. Barron's value is more from picks 20-30 and Coples and Upshaw will be gone before Ingram.
I guess it depends if they think that Seattle, Miami, or Arizona will go after him in the first round. If so then they might have to reach, though they could trade down some. Otherwise it is quite a reach. Locker, Gabbert, and Ponder went so fast because teams panicked from the looks with all the QBs going off the board so fast. Some of those teams could probably have got the QB they wanted in the 2nd round just as easily, or even have traded down to late 1st round.
Every draft is different, it would be wise not to transpose different encapsulations of time as such.
agreed. I'm sure Upshaw will be a solid pro, but I'm afraid that he doesn't fit our need very well. DeCastro would be able to come in right away and start at LG, making Slauson a much needed reliable back-up. Even if the coaches don't like DeCastro very much (don't know why they wouldn't) you have to figure that someone will be trying their hardest to move up and get him (STL, PIT, CIN to name a few)
I don't see KC passing on DeCastro if he's there at 11. They have a ton of needs, especially OL, so drafting a RB would be foolish considering that might be their one area of strength (assuming Charles is healthy). They already have a stable of RBs with a similar running style as TR. If anything, I see them taking a bruiser in round 3 or 4 to replace TJ. So, in this scenario, Richardson would probably be available at 16. We either take him or get a king's ransom from some team with more pressing needs at RB.
I agree its possible - teams do crazy stuff in the draft all the time, like the Jags taking Alualu at #10 - and its especially the case with the QB position.
The QB position is not even close to what it was last year, depth wise. The year prior (2010) Locker was considered a Top QB, his stock fell but it did make sense to take him high if you need a QB. Also, Ponder came off an excellent senior bowl and college year, thus drafting him, although a reach that high, did make sense. Tannehill doesn't have any of those accolades at all and is coming off an injury. He is a reach in the second, so taking him at 6 is completely absurd. I doubt GMs are that stupid.
I know its (very) unlikely but its not totally unthinkable - one of the 4 "experts" on nfl.com in their latest draft has Tannenhill going to the Skins at #6. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2012/mock-drafts?module=HP11_hot_topics just to be clear, its not my point and not my mock, all i am saying is stranger things have happened!
Looks like Tannehill to the Skins is getting some traction (from Walterfootball): "Charlie Campbell was among the first to mock Ryan Tannehill to the Redskins at No. 6. He was criticized for this on a British football forum, but it appears as though his prediction will come to fruition. The consensus on Path to the Draft was that Tannehill will probably be a top-10 selection, with the "worst-case scenario" being No. 12 overall, per Mayock. This sounds like Blaine Gabbert all over again - another second-round talent being pushed into the top 10 because of the dire need for quarterbacks. No one should be surprised if Tannehill goes as high as No. 4 to Cleveland if the Browns can't land Matt Flynn or trade up for Robert Griffin."
Way I look at it, there are 5 teams that will be looking to add a QB via the draft and free agency: Indy, Cleveland, Washington, Miami & Seattle with Denver looming as a possible dark horse. You figure the guys available will be Luck, Griffin, Manning, Tannenhill and Flynn in some combo.
