Marty Mornhinweg's consistent head-scratching moves, like his decision to kick away the football in sudden-death overtime after winning the coin flip, ensured that his credibility was limited. Believe it or not, he wasn't the only NFL head coach to ever do that. The writer also could have wrote about the time Mornhinweg got upset with some of his players during a practice. He walked off the field and without saying anything to anybody, went for a ride on his motorcycle. What a dork.
you know, Lou Holtz' reign as NY Jet head coach wasn't much different, and didn't even last as long. Holtz has such a reputation from College, but as a Pro coach he belongs on that list too! Who can forget the NY Jets need a fight song? The Buckeys'?
The only thing he ever got the team to accomplish was lining up in order by jersey number for the national anthem. Oh, and he kept Chrebet on the team.
...it goes a long way that, to this day, he has never held any position on a coaching staff in the NFL since. A friend of mine that is an Eagle fan has said that if Kotite ever came to his school looking to coach his JV team he wouldn't hire him...
the kotite years were a disaster, as one poster said, the only good thing was the fact that we got Chrebet out of the mess... Just think what us jets fans would be crying over had Kotite cut chrebet and he made it with another squad and did what he did...
I don't agree w/ him being #1. Sure he did as bad a job coaching the team that could have been done BUT there have been plenty just as bad and as a GM he did a decent job. He got us Chrebet, Key, Mickens, Cascadden, Douglas, Graham, O'Dwyer, Bobby hamilton, Jumbo, John Hudson(a great LS) and more. As bad a job as he did coaching he left the team w/ decent talent which helped us turn around quickly under a real coach.
Cut out the Herman Edwards on the list crap. That makes no sense at all. Besides there are enought NY coaches there already. Actually I propose one more. Bill Belichick (Jets) Lasted oh, about 5 minutes.
Good point. of course the only Jets HC w/ 3 PO appearances should be there. After all he only took a franchise that had made 1 PO appearance in 9 years( and missed the 2 precious PO's before he got there) to 3 PO appearances in 5 years including only our 2nd AFC East title ever, our 1st road playoff win in 22 years and was HC of the only 3 of 4 playoff stretch in Jets history. How didn't he make the list?
As much as I do not like Herm Edwards, I must agree here. The man did get enough results that he rightly is not even close to being eligible for this list.
I also find it curious that no one from the Arizona Cardinals made the list. While the Jets had their fair share of ineptitude under Kotite, my god Arizona has been bad for so long. I agree with Hornet. Herm doesn't belong anywhere near this list, as much as I was glad to see him go.
Keyshawn too, if you think about it. The 3-13 year got us the #1 pick which was him. So Kotite did manage to put together the best WR tandem we've had in the past 15 years--purely by accident, of course.
No, the 1-15 year was Keyshawn's rookie year, 1996. It inspired his infamous (and hilarious) book, "Just Give Me The Damn Ball!". We again had the #1 pick, but when Bill Parcells took over he traded down and drafted James Farrior, I think at #7 but I'm not totally sure about that. Those two seasons accounted for Kotite's 4-28 record. Add in the 0-5 finish under Pete Carroll in 1994 and that's a lovely little 4-33 stretch we went through. :up:
That drove me nuts. First Peyton decided not to come out after his Junior year, and then Parcells didn't want to take the O-Lineman (Pace) with the first overall pick but wanted to accumulate picks. Nobody left on the team from that draft that included Jason Ferguson, Farrior, Ward and L.Johnson. Not to mention Rick Terry and Terry Day, ugh....
