I really don't see the upgrade of starting Bowens opposite Thomas... I'm cool with Hobson moving inside, that i'm perfectly fine with and support...But to lose Barton and have Bowens on the outside? That's not upgrading at all, that's a pretty big downgrade, I don't care what rookie you draft, Bowens doesn't deserve to start at all.
Thanks for the info, I don't like Bowens either, he is less than a difference maker and I do not think he would be an upgrade from Von Oelhoffen
I think Rock misses the point. Bowens will join Hobson as the ILB. Vilma , like it or not is being shopped and will be eventually traded probably for a second and a third. The other OLB will be drafted (Jarvis, Moss, Anthony Spencer or Charles Johnson).
11 sacks as a backup the last two years means Bowens isn't a playmaker? Barton is barely better than Bowens, it's a case of fans overrating their own players when they say that going from Barton to Bowens is a dramatic downgrade. Bowens has the perfect size for a 3-4 OLB, and his main strength is pass-rushing. He's MORE of a playmaker than Barton, that's for sure.
if this guy is so wonderful why did he never start for them. this guy is an aging backup who will always be just a backup. I can't believe anyone could say he is near barton's talent level.
It's hard to get time as a starter when you play the same end position as Jason Taylor. I wouldn't compare him to the Eric Barton of 2004. That would be insane. But the Barton of the past year was a solid player, which I believe describes Bowens. I'd personally like to keep both of them on the team, and have Bowens take the spot of Chatham or Kassell... but if they cut Barton and replace him in the LB rotation with Bowens, I won't see it as much of a downgrade.
he is not being considered as a DE but a outside LB.Too small for 3-4 DE but if we can trade Barton for a good DE with size and sign Bowens cheaply it could be a good move...
Bowens on his way. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/blog/ By Tom Rock: DE David Bowens met with the Jets today ? as of 5 p.m. they were still meeting, in fact -- and his agent Harold Lewis said Bowens was very impressed with the Jets and their direction. He also said the Jets have told him that they are equally impressed by Bowens. Sounds like a match made in heaven! Do we have a deal? No. The next step is to work out an offer and an acceptance ? something both sides seem to want ? and finalize a contract. That won?t happen until Tuesday at the earliest, Lewis said. But it sounds as if Bowens will soon be wearing the Green and White of the Jets He put up good numbers in a limited roll. He will help tutor and teach a younger player and get him ready in the future while playing at a high level.
According to the DN the jets are close to signing DE Kenyon Coleman: and they are reporting that the Jets have a deal for Jones which will pay him $12 mil in guaranteed money. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/502897p-424187c.html
well let's bring em both in and cut Kimo prior to June 1 and then we can call it a day... besides i think they both would be good. We would have a three end rotation that would be killer on defenses. possibly four if we throw BT into the mix and coleman could drop off as an LB if i understand it right... this would be quite the FA day if the jets landed Jones, Coleman and Bowens
That means we are going to have to move Robertson, I thought they'd try him at DE but if e are brining in DEs that doesn't sound like the case. Dewayne had a very good year last year but we need a big body in the middle.
true junc but maybe they are going to give him one more shot, and then there are rumors we are trying to move up in the draft... maybe we package the number two's and our first to move into the top ten to get a big DT if we feel there is one there to be had. I don't believe the CJ rumors for a second, i think CJ will be phenomenal but if we weren't going to mortgage the farm last year for Bush i doubt we mortgage more for CJ.
