OK... Lets cool it with the defacto Rex bashing. I was not a Rex guy so don't get it twisted but, what we're seeing right now is tinted with 20/20 hindsight. Rex did make this franchise relevant again. He kept the team in the NY Media and in large part, helped with PSL and swag sales. He remade our defense albeit at the expense of our offense. Too bad the league transitioned to Offense oriented since Rex could not adapt to that seismic shift.

Again, I'm no Rex fan. I stopped buying into the hype back in 2013. I never bought into the eternal AFCCG appearance rationale as a loss to me is a loss. I don't deal in moral victories.

Lets just move on to the Bowles era and be thankful that we have the talent on D that we do. Now if we mount a "Manhattan Project" and create a monster on offense before our D ages out, we should be in the same conversation as the Patriots, Colts, Ravens and Steelers in other words, the class of the conference. We have a new leadership team with an entirely different POV.

I'm done with the obsession of the NY Media with all things Ryan. He's no longer the HC of the NYJ's so for all intent and purposes, Rex doesn't matter anymore.

I'm all in with Bowles, Mac Da Knife and as such couldn't give a shit what Rex does or doesn't do. Give Rex his props but its time to move on.

Cman, I always like your posts, but I hate this crap. The Jets have been a relevant franchise since Parcells took over. We made the playoffs under numerous coaches since then. This "Rex made us relevant" crap ranks up there with "players would run through a wall for Rex". *Puke*

As a long time fan, I appreciate the 2 years of success we had under Rex and agree it's time to move on. Love what I'm seeing under Bowles so far.

The problem probably stems from rex becoming HC of a division rival.

Simply stated, he sucked as a Head Coach.
Could not agree more. Ass Clown did not make the Jets relevant again... Parcells did.

I agree, however when Mangini took over, He was almost the Anti-Parcells. He was so focused to being Belichek Jr. that the team became "bland"under his leadership. That was my point regarding "relevancy". The Jets were relevant to us, but on the national stage, we were an afterthought. Ryan otoh, was the anti-Mangini. He kinda was the Donald Trump of NFL coaches when he walked thru Woody's door. Talked big, walked big. Unfortunately for us, 2 close calls and 4 non-descript seasons later, we see where it went off the rails with Rex. The Walk never measured up to The Talk.

Rex did install the core of this defense. His uber focus on the defense for 6 years produced what we see on the field today. Sadly, it came at the expense of our offense which as we all acknowledge, is Rex's blindspot.

Don't look now, but you just created a new Rex thread by telling people to move on from Rex...

It would be nice if that were true, but Rex is the head coach of the Bills and as such has the potential to make life miserable for the Jets. Done with Rex and the Jets? Sure, but we better pay attention to what he's doing in Buffalo.

As long as Rex stays if the AFCE he will always get some attention from us. Anyway the most important thing is for the Jets to get a win against the Eagles. I want to walk out of MetLife being a fan of a 3-0 team. Who do we root for in the 4:25 game Bills or Fish.?

Seriously, I'm so on board with Coach Bowles that Rex Ryan's so "yesterday's news'' in my head - I've totally moved on.

I don't really understand the big deal, or why people get frustrated by it. He's not even a year removed from being our head coach and we play him twice a year.

What are people going to use as a comparison for our current regime? The old regime.

    It makes sense.

I don't think keeping the Jets in the news makes them "relevant". Winning consistently on the field is what makes a team relevant. Rex rarely accomplished that in his 6 years with the Jets.

Keeping them in the news makes them entertaining and I'll grant you Rex is a master at that. Who else would sign IK Enemkpali after he assaulted a teammate?

Ryan was a polarizing figure while he coached the Jets. He talked big and did a little winning with a roster that by and far wasn't "his". The same mouth that helped the Jets become part of the popular lexicon of the moment also brought on the derisive attention that many in the Jets fan-base have become overly agitated with. While Ryan is gone, as fans, we are left with the Ryan "stink" to deal with. Disillusionment with what could have been if Rex had been just little better of a "coach" and aid in talent evaluation.

That's the past though and I think we would all probably forget about it if we didn't have ring side seats for what looks like a redux of the "Rex Ryan experience" in what is essentially our backyard. As such, the local media still covers him in almost a similar manner. Add to to that the fact that Ryan may have walked away from a chance to "build" a team in Atl around a legit upper crust NFL QB. Instead, he "stuck around" and spent the better part of the off-season acting like a jilted lover. Going so far as to signing a guy that by all rights should have had his NFL career end the minute he decided it was OK to cold cock the starting QB.

Agreed. Please remember that at the time, Woody needed to make a splash just like the new ownership up in Buffalo. I wonder sometimes just how similar the two situations were. Woody need to sell PSL's and generate interest. Look no further than Rex Ryan, HC and part time carnival barker. He put the Jets on the back pages and to folks that aren't diehards like us, made them interesting to watch and follow. Getting to the AFCCG's was the cherry on top. Losing them didn't really seem to matter since we got there in consecutive years. Rex rode that short success story and for once, things were looking up for the Jets. Nobody foresaw the drop off that was coming.

Teams for once had to pay attention to the Jets and in particular, the Jet Defense. All of that you have to give the credit to Ryan. That's why I think all the shots Ryan is taking isn't really fair. Again, I'm no Ryan fan, but if it wasn't for Rex, would we have the defensive talent we have today? Hard to say....
